Hi everyone,

Picked up one of these this evening in Sheffield using Comet's "Click and Collect" system. I expected to receive the version advertised on their site, but instead was offered the Iomega "Prestige" model. More than happy to accept this as it appears very sturdy (brushed aluminium case) and is slimmer. Had a look in one of the displey cabinets and it appears this version is the model on offer, not the one they advertise on their site.

This pocket drive contains a Seagate Momentus 320GB 5400RPM ST9320329AS 2.5" hard drive. Comes with a USB cable with an extra connector for a boost in power, and the drive has a 5volt DC input (power supply not included).

I got the 250 GB one for £35ish from tesco. Seems quite tough - very small/light and it powers off of one USB port for me (it comes with two connectors if it doesn't.)

Good deal considering that drive is over £60 on it's own, not much more than a standard 320gb sata 2.5" drive.

Could i take the hard disk out of this and pit it in my MacBook Pro then put my 160GB hard disk from my laptop in the external case?

Depends if its SATA then yes, as long as you have a valiable means of restoring your op, i'd give it a go.

Good buy, tempted to buy one to replace my 60gig in my ps3. Any advice.

As the reserve and collect isn't available in the weston-super-mare store (typically) does anyone know if its the same price instore, or is it only via R&C ?
#8
Damn! I'd just ordered a Western Digital 320GB 2.5" SATA drive from Amazon for £49.99 to replace the one that's failed in my laptop, but for a few pounds more could have gotten a free external enclosure too.

The 1TB is a 3.5" Drive which requires a power supply so not like for like comparison. :whistling:

Oh well, what do I know.

I'm happy, because it gives me plenty of storage for not much cash, seperate power supply or not:)

...and 4x the weight, so not very portable either....this fits into a pocket!

Can you confirm if this will run off of a single USB port or do you need to take power from two ports as the cable provided would suggest?
#17
I think that depends on the bit of kit you're connecting too.

I have several 2.5" external hard drives [max 160Gb] and they will all run off one USB connection on my laptop, PC or Popcorn Hour.

Unless the larger capacity has a bearing on the amount of 'driving juice' required????

.. I can confirm it runs fine from a single USB port on my desktop computer and laptop - YMMV :)

Hi,

Looking for some advice.

Looking at 2 very good deals on here for 2.5" HDD, but cannot decide which to go for and any advice is much appreciated.

Would you go for the Iomega 320gb drive as here or the WD 320gb drive via Currys/PC World???

Thanks

Interesting. Just seen this on the Comet page:

http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/ev2/content/buttons/accessories/but_20off_pc.gif

Yet if you click it it goes to http://www.comet-accessories.co.uk/accessories_online/computing-accessories-c-121.htm

Which doesn't show the HDD posted here. Go to the link from here and it won't let you add the promo code (assuming because it's already on sale but that's NOT what the offer says)

Meanwhile all other prices have gone up it appears.
