What is "basic"? Is the drive inside the same, I wonder? I don't mind the looks, goes under the desk.

Fat32 you will need a tool to format above 32gb so use swiss army knife or fat 32 formatter or search google for a tool to allow format.

for the playstation 3 you need to format as fat32. which can be a pain. check the internet for guides,
this would also work on your netbooks

Difference being the drive used in Select range is slower (RPM wise) than Prestige range, also looks and feels more plain - inside there's Seagate Barracuda drive, if I'm right it's 5900rpm in Select, and 7200rpm in Prestige. I'd say they're both pretty good, as long as it's a Seagate product inside, especially Barracuda... Had the Select version, prior to finding this deal.

Looking around and that seems the going rate at the moment. 1tb Amazon, PCWorld, Currys, Dixons, all £59 and £54 at Comet. Or is it a price fix, I wonder?
#31
Hmm, check out this review....

http://www.dabs.com/products/iomega-1tb-prestige-3-5--hdd-usb2-0-5FHX.html#reviews

According to this the 1TB version uses Seagate's 7200.11 HDDs - they have a very bad rep for failures! For this price though I am going to take the risk...
#32
HDD seem to have edged up in cost since I bought my 1TB a few months ago.

This isn't too bad for Currys as usually they're the suck for price.

Reserved one for pick up and when I got there they had no stock.

PC World have the crappest reservation system I have ever seen.

Complete waste of my fr!gg!n time. :x
#34
Yes complete plonkers in these stores as I've also found out.
You reserve one but all the stock is out on the shop floor being sold. No one ever remembers to put one aside so your journey is wasted.
#35
Agreed, their reservation system is pointless!

I've suggested that they implement a more accurate stock system, whereby if an item is available to reserve online, it must be in stock - if not, an alternative of similar spec must be offered for the reserved price.

In addition, if their store staff have not yet allocated reserved stock and an item is presented at checkout by an of-the-street customer, the system must insist on a valid reservation code before allowing the sale of the item.

However, I do appreciate that some customers who have reserved, but don't turn up to collect, it could mean a loss sale.

Oh yeah - when is Best Buy coming to the UK? That should rock PCW's boat!

heat and rep added just picked my one up .They are 69 in store .
They are a 2 1/2 drive and they don't require any extra power /power taken straight from the usb.
this is the hard drive inside http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=04d26c9cf9c2d110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD#tTabContentSpecifications
Edit :-Just transferred 8.26Gb In just under 6 min and this is the one the op posted 500Gb.
#37
Just picked this up in Currys in Donegal Arcade, Belfast. They had tons. Rep+heat OP! :) Thanks!
#38

EDIT: cheers, didnt see the above post ^
#39
