Seems like a GOOD deal. I have the 320GB version of this drive, and it is very sturdily made - also bought from Comet.

:)
#4
Does anyone know if this one needs a power cable or is it just USB power?
Ta

USB - I have one for use with my Wii and its excelent - Paid 44 at tesco 6 months ago and thought that was good price. Woild buy one if they were available on line.
#6
I went to Bristol Cribbs Causeway yesterday and they would only sell me one for £45 - I'll try another branch on my way home from work today.

Heat and rep to OP, I also went in to Comet Halifax and price was at 44.99 ??? Can the OP post the product code for us , Thanks in advance.
#8
Actually my connector which you connect the USB cable broke. Opened the casing and it was laughably connected with 2 measly screws. Actual drive was absolutely fine but now the casing wasnt, Went to ebay bought a hdd laptop casing and voila, great working drive.
#9
Being a 2.5" drive, it's most likely to be powered by the USB port.

Voted hot, I may pop in my local on the off chance. I need a back up drive.
#10
This going to go like the last post did. Seems that nearly all the Comet stores still have them at £44.99 like mine did.

Can the OP advise exactly which store they bought theirs from please?

Hi - I posted the original £29.99 price at Leeds Briggate store this Saturday

My receipt quotes this reference

567736 IOME 34609

not sure if one of these is the product code
#12
Could you elaborate on the item, such as was there an actual ticket on the shelf with the marked down price or was it a manager's special (did they have to over-ride the price on the system or something?)?

Apologies for the questions, not suggesting this deal is non-existent it's that many who tried to find this found it at a £45 price tag.

If any legend HUKD member is willing to pick up a second hard drive and send one my way I will pay for it and it's postage. :p

567736 should be the product code based on the post by Arstar in the previous thread:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/534644/iomega-select-drive-250gb-comet-ins/showpost.php?p=6962550&postcount=13

Arstar

Worth to also see if your local has any in stock as well.

Ta

.. there is an input for a 5volt supply (not included) on this device (not all pocket USB drives have this) - I've only had to use an external power supply once when connecting the drive to a Nokia Internet Tablet (N800). Most of the PCs and laptops I've used have enough power through a USB port to power it.

Just rang up Comet Central helpline was told price is 44.99 !! was the OPs purchase a managers special ??? could the OP let us good people know the product code on his till reciept .

Thanks in advance.
#15
It was Llanelli branch and product code on my receipt is 445495 IOME 33860.
Yes it is normally usb powerd, so no need for power cable.
#16
Different code

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/567736/IOMEGA-34609

OP £27.99 online £44.99

Perhaps it was a discontinued model!

Hmm, this is a development...

This product code (445495) is not found on the website so perhaps this is an old model on clearance.

Nonetheless if anyone manages to get a second one I am willing to pay for it including postage.
#18
I have found out it is a discontinued model hence the price, so it's just a matter of checking your local store to see if they have any.

The (Phillipo's) product code (567736) is correct but the on-line/instore price is £44.99. I suspect the OP got a mis-priced bargain.

Manufacture product code is 33860, which is shown on the reciept.
#21
I think its an older model hence the price, it was on a special offer I think, because on the receipt it also says 10 Prist.Supersess which means supersession I think! So it took £12 off £39.99
#22
Comet show the new model 34609, but at £44.99, 33860 is now discontinued and no longer available online.

It has to be worth a check at your local store, may still have some of the old model on special.

Based on the previous thread, the OP's receipt, it's correlation to the website entry and subsequently the OP of this thread's receipt:

Respectively it would suggest that the first series of numbers is the product code (or SKU) and the second series is the model number (so the product is "Iomega Select Drive 250GB 33860".

Iomega 250GB 5400RPM USB2 8MB 2.5" PORTABLE HARD DRIVE
Discontinued
mfr#: 33860

MFR# = manufacturer model?, wouldn't that also support the suggestion that 33860 is the model number, not comet's product code?

Furthermore the second series of numbers is familiar to the range of models the Iomega offers ( http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/category/2359/External-Hard-Drives/n/1002359+4294966529 )
plus if you search for an Iomega 33860, such a item exists:
http://skinflint.co.uk/eu/a268761.html

To conclude I believe that the discontinued item is an "Iomega Select Drive 33860" (or along the lines of) with the comet product code being 445495 - like you said your best bet is to go to your local and ask, however I suggest quoting 445495 to be searched on their system for a stock check.

I've also had a problem with this Iomega drive type, the internal usb connector became unsoldered. I resoldered it, and surrounded it with a big blob of Aradite.
#29
It seems the numbers on receipt are different to the SKU code.
#30
I just edited title to inc model, its a Prestige not a Select.

Have checked my box

SKU#34609
HDD 2.5" Select 250Gb USB Black WW

Iomega part number 31817200

SPHDU

Mine is a USB only model, but the cable supplied splits into 2 at the end you connect to the computer

The manual says this is if your USB port does not have enough power

runs fine on my Dell Desktop running XP, with just one lead plugged in

445495 is the comet SKU. All of their SKU's are 6 numbers long.

Maybe store specific then.

Got to be worth a check in your local I suppose!
