refurb - not new
#2
1080i (not P), doesnt list codec support, refurb, and a 3 month warranty.

Not good
#3

#4
what do u want for 49.99 almost the same price for a 500gb internal
#6
if it is the screen play iomega, here is a link to a promo video about it:

#7
Whilst many people won't care that it is a refurb, that info should be in the first post.
#8
i presume batteries are included for the remote, being as they even have a picture of them! Bargain!

Which would have a 3 year warranty versus 3 months for this.
#13
You would under consumer rights be entitled to a repair within a reasonable amount of time.
So should be ok for a year.
#14
good stuff
#15
doesn't support h.264

http://screenplayprohd.wikia.com/wiki/ScreenPlay_Pro_HD

Bit of two minds about it - been looking for something similar but this looks a little limited in playback, though the hard drive could make up for it.
#16
Good deal - got one last time. Be aware they may need the firmware to be updated - other than that, great little things
#17
good deal , but no mkv support
#18
Hi, im not really a techie, but is this basically the same principle as my 2tb Samsung Story linked to my WDTV (but in one package).

If it is, do I just plug the Samsung and this into my computer and drag whatever I want onto this?
#19
Cold, misleading post and still not changed (Refurb-3 month warranty)

Guys, if it's a problem just click on edit on the original post and add what I just added.

Delivery is £3.99 so total you pay is £54.67.
#22
I think some peeps don't know what it's for, it's not just an external drive guys. I paid £50 for a non hd, non network enclosure with out a hard drive a while back.
Would be buying this one if I didn't have my PS3 already.
Hot!!!
#23
ok Misco doesn't always get the specs right so is it safe to assume that the link above to the promotional video states 1080P and MKV support?

http://screenplayprohd.wikia.com/wiki/MKV_Files

I'm going to order one as it's a great cheap NAS drive all the same. If it does turn out to be a 'bucket' then it can just be returned under DSR.
#24
will the hard drive work in my sky hd box
#25
From here, which seems to be the right device:

MKV only supports Xvid and NOT H.264 directly from the player. There is a program that will stream H.264 from your PC to the ScreenPlay by transcoding it to a compatible format. However, the file cannot be on your ScreenPlay to do this, it has to be on your PC.

So it's a reasonable deal, but given that it doesn't support H.264 and it has no Ethernet connection it's not that hot.
#26
@thegimp

the link you posted states it can use the mkv container but h264 files must be transcoded. H264 is the most common HD media inside the mkv container so to have to transcode makes this box a bit pointless for anyone after a comprehensive media player for high def files.

However at £50 it is only a bit more expensive than other enclosures, let alone with a 500GB hdd included! So very cheap but not for HD freaks like me, I'll stick to my revo :)
#27
It does have MKV support but not h264 format files in the MKV container (it does support Divx in an MKV).according to the Wikia link http://screenplayprohd.wikia.com/wiki/MKV_Files

The promo video shows three different models - the director is shown as the only one with the h264 support.

It's apparently 'okay' as a Nas in that the latest firmware gives you a 20Mbit/s throughput (compared to 120 for USB) - a 4.5Gb DVD image would take between 30 and 60 minutes to copy to it on network.

Edit: Third post saying so :)

It does have an ethernet connection - otherwise it wouldn't be much use as a NAS
#28
http://screenplayprohd.wikia.com/wiki/ScreenPlay_Pro_HD

I was just about to buy one but then realised it can't do H.264 files which a lot of my HD mkv files are encoded in.

Edit: Just realised everyone else has found that wikia page!

Can this record from TV? ie freeview
#30
thanks for clearing up the MKV question. How on earth is this a NAS drive without a ethernet port :?

I'm guessing their wifi adapter is pretty much the same as normal wifi adapters. I'm thinking i should call up an cancel.

The Wifi adapter messes it up.. you can't boot the system with the adapter plugge in http://screenplayprohd.wikia.com/wiki/Outstanding_Issues .. definitely calling to cancel.
#31
I think its a pretty good deal if its what you are looking for.

The drive is worth £25-30, so the enclosure and player are costing you about £20.
If it plays the formats you want then its a good deal, if it doesnt then look for soemthing else. Not sure that not playing MKV should get people voting cold. Voted hot.

But it does have ethernet port?

# Convenient Browse your home network to select stored media files to enjoy on your home theatre
# Great value Multimedia player plus network storage; a onetouch video record feature is included

also the picture of the back on the website shows it?
#33
screw it.. i've cancelled. It does have an ethernet port but i've a feeling it will only allow proprietary use of the NAS.
#34
I've ordered one to replace my dying xbmc. We'll see how well it works and if it's rubbish I'll send it back. Mind you, this is a great price for a 500gb NAS even without the HD media player.
#35
Cold for the 3 months guarantee and the fact that it is refurbished. I would prefer to pay double and get a proper guarantee on a brand new item.
#36
It says "ScreenPlay Pro HD" on the tower here:

http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=441898&Tab=1&NoMapp=0

If it can't play most MKV (and needs a PC in order to play them) then it's not HD in my opinion...

Edit: I guess it falls under HD due to the fact it can play 1080i, but it's not "full" HD...
#37
cold for all the reasons given above

so is this picture misleading then?
i can live without mkv for this price but can someone clarify why peeps are stating it doesn't have ethernet? despite the port pictured

Thanks for doing that

It is quite possible to original poster didn't realise it is a refurb, and has said many folks may not be concerned; however refurb should be in the deal title - only the original poster or a mod can change that.

Edit: The deal needs updating to include the postage cost - or is there as free delivery code?

Will this work with Windows 7 ? My PS3 has died and we used it mainly for watching stuff thru TVersity. Thought this would be a cheap alternative to a new PS3 :-)
