This record will self destruct in one play. This is a good deal if you want convenience, but an ebay purchase with a new decent needle is likely to be kinder to your vinyl in the long run.

Exactly why will this self destruct an LP in one play?

What do you mean exactly? What are you proposing we buy off ebay?

He's probably suggesting you buy a decent second hand record player that will be far kinder to your records assuming the record player you buy has a quality styli.

Then you'd need to connect the record deck to a pre-amp or amplifier to get the line level right to put into a computer input.....that's why people buy these ION decks as they're an all in one but very very basic solution.

can't remember the model but bought one of these all in ones for a birthday present. has to send it back because it would auto stop before the end of 45s. hopefully this one won't do that.

I ended up buying separates off eBay instead,

Yes indeed. Build quality is variable on this Ion, with reports on the belt drive not quite worried about keeping at 33rpm after some usage (29rpm anyone?).
Also I can't expect the tone arm to be up to much for £45 and the stylus will be also cheap and not particularly kind to your records.

Remember, unlike CD's, there is contact between the player and the media. I'm no expert but £45 spent on a second hand deck (like the Technics SL-Q3 I bought) and a bit extra for a cheap amp (that supports phone) will yield better quality results. Of course, it is easy to buy a dud on the second hand market too, but you are always going to get a better deal from a belt or direct drive turntable that once cost £100+ many years ago and people have since stopped using because of the convenience of digital technology.

I also can't image the DAC is up to much in this, so as suggested you may as well use the audio in on your laptop/desktop, even if you dont have any special sound card.

These Ion decks always used to be supplied with Audacity which is free and very good. It is a pain to install for those who prefer simple solutions because the LAME MP3 encoding add in DLL software has to be downloaded from elsewhere and added to a directory within Audacity (the last time I installed it.)

Whilst this is a hot deal for the product/price, buying this product is actually a false economy IMO.
But if you do buy it, please report back you experience and I will stand corrected.

Just google "wha do you think about Ion usb turntable that can make vinyl into mp3 files? anyone own it?" for other similar views.
