AMAZING martials arts film with a great story. The story is actually based on true events. The real Ip Man (Yip Man) was one of Bruce Lees original teachers: http://mygrafity.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/bruce-lee-yip-man-3.jpg

Looks interesting, I've been out of the Asia Cinema scene for a few years now since settling down. Any other recommendations of recent Asian cinema I should be checking out?

HOT HOT HOT! Been waiting for this region B for ages!

Donnie Yen, although a bit up his own ass..is a sick martial artist! Love this movie and I can't wait for part 2.
Sammo Hung directed the fight scenes for this movie ( In my eyes the best Wing Chun choreographer - Warriors Two, Prodigal Son ) I think Sammo steps in front of the cam in part two! Donnie Vs Sammo rematch?

Anyway, top movie and gonna pre order now! waaataaAAH!!

Yeah Yip Man did teach Bruce Lee. But i'd take the story line and events in this movie with a pinch of salt.
For those who haven't seen Donnie Yen's Flashpoint or Sha Po Lang (aka Killzone), I suggest you also try to find these on bluray too. I think they are multiregion. :-D

Already mentioned in post #7...............

would also recommend jet li in Fist Of Legend as one of the best. he basically plays bruce lee in a remake of fist of fury. make sure its the subtitled version though. seems quite difficult to find.
#25

Yes man!! Fist of Legend is one of my fave jet movies! I heard there is a german bluray version of the movie out, but I'm not sure what cuts appear on it.

Hey ukmonkey,

Yeah I get that impression everytime he opens his mouth. I remember Donnie speaking about martial arts and basically repeated what I think he heard Bruce Lee say in interviews. The guy couldnt even give Yuen Woo Ping full credit for Iron Monkey. But yeah.. can't knock him for his skills! Once Upon A Time in China 2 and Hero both have great Jet vs Donnie scenes for those of you who have not yet seen it!

Excellent film and a great showcase for Wing Chun. Wish I had Blu Ray.
