An untouchable classic, Ip Man is a glorious and evocative biopic of the man who defied an empire, pioneered the world's most explosive fighting art, and went on to mentor Bruce Lee- the greatest martial arts icon of all time.

Set in Foshan, China, during the Sino-Japanese War, Ip Man vividly brings to life the brutality of the infamous Japanese occupation, where once proud men are forced to fight to the death for a precious bag of rice. Defined by courage and humility, one man rises to the fore, Grandmaster Ip Man (Donnie Yen): a Wing Chun impresario, whose matchless fighting skill is revered all over China.

Upon refusing to teach his beloved fighting art to the invading Japanese soldiers, he is forced to fight for the honour of his country in a series of battles that will culminate in a kill-or-be-killed showdown with Japan's greatest fighter.

With sumptuous production values, a career-defining performance from Kung Fu Superstar, Donnie Yen, and inspired close-quarter fight sequences by action-legend, Sammo Hung, Ip Man is an unforgettable event-movie experience that will define the benchmark in action-cinema for years to come.

I always use HMV if equivalent price because you get it in a decent sturdy box which you can reuse when ebaying your old stuff. Better than Amazon's padded envelope or Play's flimsy cardboard wrapper thingy...

Same. I'm waiting for IP Man 2 to go down in price to £4 in Sainsbury's also.

I think it's actually called Yip Man, but because of possibly copyright reasons, its called IP Man.

must be a differant reason, ip mans own son was involved in the production of this film (and plays a role in ip man the legend begins)

this is £7 in morrisons if you'd rather pick up and pay an extra 51p

i personally want the HK release which has 7.1 audio

this is great though, hot

Can't imagine there being much difference between standard DVD and blu-ray versions of this.

Movies great but is based on little facts, yes there was a Yip Man but he was a police officer,he never fought the japenese and he was an opium addict, after China became communist he ran away to Hong Kong to save his wealth before it was confiscated.
He started a martial arts school there and Bruce Lee was said to be one of his pupils.

there is better pic and sound on the blu ray version.

P.S. part 2 is pretty lame compared to this one
