Way too expensive for a Chav show off gadget. Next, Steve Jobs will be giving away Burberry caps to go with this sorry excuse of a gadget.

Sorry excuse for a gadget? I hate Steve Jobs & co as much as the next non-apple fan boy, but there is no denying this is, as far as gadgets go, quite good really. - Crap deal though, been done to death - voted cold

The chip is the same as iphone 4 and it runs slower than iphone 4. no point to buy ipad unless u r blind!

Useful, for teachers, docs and musicians though!

I had one and sold it cuz it was gathering dust for 6 months!
I'd rather sit on a bog with an iphone than an ipad lol

I'm sure viking direct are doing it for £272 ish with a free case. that would seem cheap for those who want it.

i have used one a heck of alot, ipad is good at some things but poor for others

pros
great design
slim
light
great screen
touch screen is very responsive
fast startup
good battery life

cons
poor for photographic editing or office type apps
not true multi tasking
no flash
no usb
poor connectivity to external devices esp non apple devices
abysmal storage capacity
screen not protected unless you buy a case or similar item

pro or con
no keyboard which can a con or pro depending on app

for me they need to be a little closer to the cost of a decent netbook (250ish) then it would be worth it.....ive bought 2 netbooks for less money than ONE ipad - acer ferrari one 200 (£165) and a dell 1011 (£130)....touchscreen part gimmickery aside i know what id prefer

Love it or hate it. Its the future of computing

Some bizarre comments on here as usual!
It is a touchscreen tablet, not a netbook, if you are looking for the functionality of a netbook you shouldn't be looking at a touchscreen tablet, either Android or iOS!
iOS does not support Adobe Flash and won't until Adobe fix security issues with Flash and it's CPU hogging when idle, a recent test on the MacBook Air, which doesn't ship with Flash, found that battery life was increased by 25% when Flash wasn't installed. This is a major issue for low consumption portable devices like touchscreen tablets and phones. The major Internet players are moving content from Flash to HTML5 and Adobe have released a new tool to convert Flash files to HTML5.
Apple have gambled on the industry moving from insecure and proprietary Adobe Flash to HTML5 and this move seems to be gaining support.
Flash is a great technology but deeply flawed and it is unlikely that Adobe will ever address it's fundamental security issues.
External keyboards are available for all touchscreen tablets though it kind of defeats the concept of a tablet.
Wireless technologies replace physical connectivity like USB on tablets and AirPrint allows wireless printing and Wireless and Bluetooth allow connectivity to cloud, network and external devices, again this is the pure tablet concept.
Storage again is provided by clud networks. Tablet computing was founded on the network computing model where local storage was minimal and all content was online and accessed from the network.
It helps to understand how successful the iPad is if you understand the concept of network computing and what a touchscreen tablet is designed for, it is not a netbook, it is so much more and is designed for a different purpose to netbooks/sub-notebooks.

The reason that tablet prices are at a premium when compared to netbooks is due to the cost of some of the technologies used. It has been estimated that the touchscreen on the new iPad 2 costs Apple $127 for each unit!
The Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab, for example, implement similar technologies and face similar cost issues whilst netbooks use well established, higher power consumption, lower cost and reduced technology (no touchscreen) screens.

Scales of economy will no doubt reduce costs in the future but the problem at the moment, as with any cutting edge technology, is that failure rate during the manufacturing process of these screens is very high, resulting in a small 'harvest' from the manufacturing process. Not only does this impact on cost by also supply.

Meaning that you were about the 4th person in the last few days who has wrongly referred to Viking's ex VAT price.

I have considered one of these myself and now at this price am tempted, but the question i need to know is apart from browsing the internet on a small screen what are the benefits over a laptop of the same size?. I know the battery is long lasting.
