Been looking for the cheapest way to buy an iPad 2 and was considering getting the iPad without a data plan attached from tesco with my staff discount then getting a pay monthly sim only contract from three as it was the cheapest sim only contract I could see at £7.5 a month for 1gb.

However I quickly looked at their pay as you go sims just in case and found this 12GB preloaded sim for £51.49 working out at £4.20 per GB and it lasts 12 months!

What you mean that's cheap considering vodafone would want £1,200 for 40gb and Orange moblie £1,600 for 40GB. If you want roaming with Virgin moblie it's £200,000 for 40Gb and O2 roaming is £240,00 for 40gb

3Gig 3 month £12.93 on Amazon for those not wanting to stump up 50 quid.

Above was a couple of months ago as was the 12 month. Can hardly be hot as its price is rising so fast but it does seem to be cheaper than competition.

Well it says it's only for the iphone4 and not for the ipad or anything else, but yeah probably would work, only 500mb/month though.

Does anyone know how they would enforce the 'no-iPad' rule?. I don't think the 500Mb limit would bother me much, the SIM would just be a good way of getting rid of the 'no-sim' notification at startup :P

I called Three about the 2gb £5.11 a month sim only deal, but they said they couldn't sell it to me as I was planning on using it with my mi-fi device. I know in the past they have looked the other way about data use, but they said that they have changed their terms and conditions to specifically exclude this kind of data only use (they are hoping to make money out of off allowance calls and texts to make up for the cheap data). They couldn't provide me with any proof of these changes but said they would be published shortly. I have a feeling they were just trying to talk me out of cancelling my more expensive one month rolling data contract that came with my mi-fi. I'd be curious to here if anyone has had a similar experience with three.

I've got the 2gb/month £5-11p deal and been using it in my MIFI for about a year now - no problems at all....very fast. They only tell you that over the phone to get you to sign up to the specific MIFI contracts, which are expensive in comparison! I told the manager in my local 3 shop what I wanted it for and he didn't say anything.....in fact he said I could have a micro-sim at no extra cost if I wanted to use it in an IPAD. I went for the full size sim to use in the MIFI instead....

Thanks Blotch. I'm sure the call centers must work off commision/ target retention numbers etc... so downgrading customers to this wouldn't be good for them.
