I assume he's talking about a mobile phone sim card on 3 and topping that up for supposedly mobile phone use but using it in an ipad instead

Its an add on,£5 for500mb only though, but at least he had a laugh posting :D

Is it cheaper elsewhere?
#8
These shouldnt expire should they? I might get one and use it later in the year when im on the move.

Yeah you can get 1gb for a month for £5 on 3 payg (internet monthly). The Three shops give the sims away free, just need to put £5/£10 credit on online or via a topup voucher and your away.

I've set 3 different people up using this method for their home pc connections via a 3 dongle :)

Thats why you don't use a 3 'broadband' sim, you use a 3 mobile phone sim instead and use the £5 monthy internet 'add-on' option.

I wouldn't call it a deal when you can get a giffgaff sim for £10 that runs on the O2 network that has free unlimited internet till 31st of december!
#13
Thanks and Voted hot as I've ordered a few to use in a 3 dongle as it's cheaper than Top up on PAYG mobile Broadband.

Also I guess it's a micro Sim which will be handy too. (And have adapter to use in dongle already)

Have looked at the other suggestions for cheaper but most have T's & C's that prohibit use in a dongle, even if they can't definitely tell, or are add ons to mobile phone service I don't need.
#14
so you could buy lots of these and use when needed?
is there an expiry date on the sim cards?

its such a shame its only for the ipon

but the ipad isnt a mobile phone ?

but the ipad isnt a mobile phone ?

It does not matter, the ipad is a device that uses a micro sim to gain access to a cellular data network. As long as the micro sim (or normal sim cut to size) has a data function it is irrelevant what else it has, the ipad will just access the data functions on the sim to provide mobile data to the device. So if you have a data sim, then you'll get data and if you have a mobile telephone sim with data functionality then you'll also get data on the device. It's probably in the mobile operators contract that your not allowed to use the device as a modem (which arguably you would be in an ipad) but in reality how do you tell between ipad use and smartphone use? As long as your within the data limit they won't even care as you are paying them.

I got the 32GB iPad without the data/micro sim function so I can't fit this in anywhere can I ?
#18
No , I just looked and there is no where for me to stick a sim , well no where that's not rude anyway !

You could tether the ipad to your phone (if compatible) using wirless or purchase a seperate mifi adapter (easier method but more outlay). The three mifi adapter is a very nifty bit of kit :)

I assume the 30 days starts from when I activate the sim hence I can buy a few and keep them for later use?

Yes,data allowance only starts from when you activate it
#25
Got a couple this morning, do they activate on insertion in the iPad or do you have to activate within the software. I want to insert the sim when my iPad arrives but not activate until I need the data.
#26
How does the times website thing work? There's no mention of it with the sim
#27
Can I use these abroad or do I need to purchase one in each country I visit?
#28
Still at argos today.
