Not that great a deal.

you get the simplicity sim with 300mins, UnLtd Txts, UnLtd Web & WiFi for £15 a month.

You only get 100mins with this for £25 a month so you're really paying £240+ for the phone and have 200 less minutes per month.

:)

£25.00 a month (24 months)-100 mins Unlimited texts

plus £260 or soemthing for teh phone. crap deal really for a phone that is starting to show its age, get the HTC desire.

My samsung genio slide that cost £100 on pay and go out performs this now

Has anyone actually had one of the O2 reconditioned iPhones? Does it come in the proper iphone box with all original acessories like the instuctions and plastic insert tray etc, and is the phone like an Apple "recon" ie Brand New?

I was looking to get an Iphone - and they seem to be going for £230 mark on ebay, for a decent 3g 8gig model. Cheapest iphone tarrif in 12 mnth simplictiy is £15 which gives 300mins + unlt txts and web browsing.

therefore total for 18 month is (18x£15 + £230)=£500 from ebay
and
Total on this recon deal is 18x £30 = £540

And for me, 100 mins is plenty (as I mainy txt) and the 12mnth warantee is valuable and dont have to shell out £230 (for Ebay one) or £340 for new one from O2.

But I agree that if u can afford it the better deal is to but a new one from o2 £340 and go for simlicity tarrif for smartphones.

the phone is free if u go for recon.

I dont know much about samsung but Ive just seen the tomtom app on the 3g iphone and its awsome, im not an apple fan or anyting but imho an iphone is valueable for the additional things that it can do sooooo well .

not had a recon phone but bought a recon ipod shuffle from apple direct and that came prepackaged in a white box. I assume the phones would come in a similar form but as I haven't had one can't say for sure.

Pretty poor deal, tesco's iphone contract is better, even though you have to pay £220 upfront, its a 12m contract, and reasonable minutes for £20 a month.

24 x £25 = £600

1x iphone from Tesco (but o2 of course) £440 - £15 quidco = £425 (I won't bore you with the 880 clubcard points)

o2 simplicity iphone = 300 minutes, unlimited texts, wifi + data 12 months @ £15 = £180

£180 + £425 = £605 for 200 minutes more, a new iphone and a 3gs rather than a 3g.

So, a fiver more overall for a new phone, a newer model of phone, 200 more minutes every month, unlimited wifi and data/3g and a 50% shorter contract.

And I've ignored the £100 cashback on the simplicity sim, it may well make an even better deal than the one I have detailed, hoo nose.

thanks lakeside -- yours is the winner

Have some rep from me, people going to this kind of trouble save people getting ripped off.

Errr...... isnt the original one £600 over 2 years where as your Tesco one is £605 for 12 months?
Can't fault you on the new phone and extra mins tho

I have had 2 recon phones from O2, not iPhones though.
They came in a generic brown box along with a generic charger. That was all. Talking to them on the phone, she told me this beforehand and said that is how they work their recons.

I have a recon iPhone from O2. It came in perfect condition with all the bits in the box. The box itself was an O2 generic box and not an Apple one.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies on the Recon iPhone from O2, I was hoping it would be in an original Apple iPhone box, but from the sounds of it, Lakeside's excellent calculations have exposed a much better deal than the OP's which I thought was pretty good!

cold cold cold!

how on earth anyone can justify paying £20 short of £500 for what is basically a phone! id never know!

im still using my beautiful and trusted nokia 6100 from 2004! and it does most things i want day in day out!

i know where id put my £500 - towards my mortgage!

Just called up Tesco Mobile who are offering the 16GB 3GS for £320 with £20/pm on 12 month contract giving flexible credit of 300mins or 600 texts or 150mins and 300 texts or any other variation within the £60 value of credit they give you. This also includes unlimited (1TB!!!) of data via 3g and wifi so I think £540 for the year is good as you get a 3GS and loads of clubcard points and the iPhone is unlocked for free at the end of the 12 months. Interesting to see what's on offer in June when the new iPhone is released....

Yes it is £605 over a year. The 200 minutes a month over and above the allowance = 200 x 20p so there's £40/month or £480 a year to chuck into the equation.

I forgot to mention, the Tesco one is 16 gb, I'm comparing them and didn't note that this is just 8gb.

I rest the case

Are iphones from Tesco unlocked then?

Well the Tesco iphones are o2 anyway as Tesco mobile uses the o2 network so o2 is fine straight away. On a pay monthly o2 contract they will unlock it for you (but you have to be with them for 12 months). I use a foreign sim when I go abroad so this is the useful part of unlocking for me, in UK I am o2 anyway.

It's finished now, there's 98 or 99 pages of "will they pay the cashback or not" on here somewhere!
#25
To clarify point 1: You have to be with o2 in a 12 month + contract for them to unlock it, but they can unlock in within days of you receiving it, you don't have to wait till the 12 months is up.

I have a rebox 32 gig 3GS ,which is what O2 do. It came in an O2 box but had full accessories with it . It is also cheaper insurance through O2 because it is a rebox.
It looked like a brand new phone and has caused no problem. However do NOT buy 3G iPhone, they are really slow compared to a 3GS

Keep looking on Ebay, change the sorting for newly-listed / buy it now. They do come in under £200, I got one in perfect condition, boxed with all accessoris for £180 + £5 postage. Then for £15 per month on o2 PAYG you can have 60 minutes (or more if you spend a lot of time on the phone the cost goes down), unlimited text and unlimited internet, no contract.

Total cost for 12 months, £365.
