With the lauch of iPhone 4, O2 have some of the 3G(S) models available on refurb in both black and white. You can get these by calling O2 customer care or retentions. Whereas the 'new' handsets are fixed at a certain cost by Apple, you can get the refurbished ones much cheaper. Usually they are brand new (just in a clear box rather than the Apple one!)

I just got a free handset, 300 mins, unlimited text & internet for £23pm through O2 upgrades - only downside is it is on a 24 month contract. Alternatively, the 18 month contract is £28pm.

I know many will be after the iPhone 4, but this is the cheapest I have seen the 3G(S) model so hopefully it interests someone!! Online, you would pay £149 for the handset and £30pm for the contract - a saving of £317!!

For those interested, they also have 8gb 3G models on 18mth contracts, same tariff, for £18pm. I was on a 30 day rolling contract with 02 and got this deal, so maybe it is available to PAYG customers too?

NOTE: First posting and its cold!!?! It seems a great deal to me.

...how long is the contract?
Oh, I notice the OP has now answered my question and placed it in the original posting (thanks)...yes I did read it holmesgrove...that's why I asked the question in the first place..because it didn't say how long the contract was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#2
Clearly, 24 months or 18 months at £28? Did you actually read this?
#3
This has been updated originally it didnt have any contract length details!
#4
24 month... its the usual deal, shorter contract... price goes up. Considering the cost at o2 is usually £30pm with a handset cost of £149 for a 24 month contract or £35pm with a handset cost of £149 for a 18 month contract, I think its a great deal - saving me £317!
#5
unlimited internet as well?
#6
Unlimited internet is only till September on new contracts.

After that your right down to 500Mb.
#7
what about if you are an existing customer?
#8
New customers as well?
#9
is this available on the online upgrade or is this by retentions over the phone?
#10
Thanks for this, but can we please have some clarity over who can get this deal and how they go about getting it?

Basically you ring up retentions when at the end of your contract. 202 on your o2 phone, 2 then 2 again. You must be at the end of your contract to get the deal/deals, i,e not a new customer.

They have black and white 3GS 16GB and 32GB in stock as well as some 8GB.

Thanks for the clarification

I have updated the details. First posting so give me some slack!

I am on rolling monthly Simplicity tarrif since finishing my contract last month and while waiting for either a good deal on iPhone 4 or on a 3GS (new or refurbed).
Anyway, rang retentions today and got told that will have to pay £89 (think that was the price) for handset and £30/mth for 24 mth and £35/mth for 18 mth. So is this individal specific ?

std apple 12 month warranty, but the lady offered 24 month deal for about 50 quid but i declined
#22
same, 12 months, 52 quid or something to extend to 24 months (but you can do this anytime in the first 12 months). At least someone was interested in the deal!

I got:

32GB iphone 3GS white - Free - Not refurb - This is because I asked for a 32GB white refurb and was told they had stock, been waiting a few days and my o2 phone was disconnected and my onlince account 'downgraded'. Hence I rang up compained like crazy and was offered the new one as a gesture due to their mistake.
300 mins
unlim text
unlim internet (500mb oct)
unlim o2 to o2 calls (great as the friends I speak to on a daily basis are on o2)
£30PM for 24 months

My other half got:

16GB iphone 3GS white - refurb
300 mins
unlim text
unlim internet (500mb oct)
unlim o2 to o2 calls
£28PM for 24 months

I think my deal is by far the better one. 16GB for £2 more per month and I was lucky with the o2 error!

£28 for 18 months for a 3GS is very good, especially with warranty. (Is it available to all??) I was offered 2 8GB 3Gs on 10 month contracts by phones4u (£35 pm) else I'd probably go for this.

I am asking for a mate, but he will prob prefer a brand new one, which he cant afford  No helping some people lol
#25
It is only available to O2 customers as far as im aware - someone would need to call up and ask! Got the phone today, spotless, no different to brand new except it comes in a clear box rather than the apple packaging.

ordered mine 11am monday just recieved it 10 am tuesday....sweet, like marksowden22 said the condition is no different to brand new and mine came in o2's branded box.....now to work out how to use the thing!!!!
