Be very cautious about the new Iphone 4 as it has a major design flaw, read the news about it:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/7853527/Apple-iPhone-4-hold-it-differently-to-combat-reception-problems-says-Steve-Jobs.html

Personally I would go for the 3gs anyday as I dont want to hold my phone in a specific way!

Bring on the feedback people!

Yeah looks like a good deal

Cheers, gonna have to get one myself!
#4
Good deal or not, 3 is a horrible network. Very frequent reception problems in and around London and abysmal customer service, all from personal experience... I got out and will never go back...

It amazes me how they didn't find this issue before? surely they test the device before mass producing it?
#6
Great deal but take it from one who knows THREE HAS THE WORST AND I MEAN WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE.

You can get it free on O2 as a referbished handset. The insurance is cheaper too.

The 3GS suffers from exactly the same 'problem' as the 4G. As does the HTC Desire, apparently.

I don't even get this problem with my iphone 4 and i've literally covered up the bottom left corner with my whole hand and it remains at 5 bars
#10
Exactly the 3G and 3GS have had the same problems and people just get on with it not really a design flaw
#11
Then just go for the iphone 4 then, and pay for it!

Cold for me. For a total contract cost of only 20 quid more you can get the new one:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/705278/iphone-4-12-month-contract-250-mins

Alternatively, save even more money by buying it with Tesco on PAYG and then get the 12 month 20 quid per month Vodafone sim only deal with 120 quid cashback with quidco. You'll save even more.
#13
Happy to be corrected on this but I would be very careful about relying on £80 Quidco in your calculation on whether to go for this (or any Three iPhone) deal.

As I understand it the iPhone has it's own dedicated tariffs on Three (i.e. not Internet Texter, etc)and these aren't listed on the Quidco Three page. And I'm sure I read on another thread (about the iPhone 4) that someone emailed Quidco who said no cashback from Three on iPhones....

Just sayin'

and they will charge you to fix it

think its disgusting, typical apple...."weve cocked, you pay!!".....maybe the uk gov should get involved and make apple PAY for their mistake (like the us did against bp) and send these bumpers out free of charge!!

was gonna get an iphone 4 but after this and the probs after the last phone update forget it...my phone is bricked AGAIN thanks to those MORONS at apple!
#16
Just a word of caution, has been seen with the 3G Apple doesnt tend to release any major update features for its two generation back phones, there will be a new iphone next June or a iPhone 4s and the 3gs will miss out on any major new features, you will be stuck with an already outdated phone for 2 years.

Loads of people always say that but I've been with them for around 5 years, had numerous contracts for myself and family and not had a single problem with CS. Yes, you call CS and they are in India (as are most these days) but they are always polite and get any problems sorted.
My only problems have been with T-mobile.

I am no lawyer, but surely they can't expect people to pay for a manufacturing fault? it has 12 months warranty also doesn't it?

I also read on here that people were taking back broken 3gs phones and getting it replaced with brand new ones., why is it different now.:?

Same, i am on 3, not had a problem with them at all

yeah good deal but i wouldnt go with 3 again if the phone was free there bombay customer services is terrible, rude, ignorant and bullys.
i was with 3 when they first started and i was with them for many years but i decided too stop because there pay as you go tarrifs were terrible you had to put 15 pound on it and if you had any credit left over you lost it !! so it wasnt really pay as you go.at first when i signed up the tariff was different you only got billed for whatever minutes you used per month so if i didnt use it i didnt have to pay but when 3 first started you had to give them your bank account details to get the phone free too.all was fine until they changed the tarriffs without telling me and i didnt notice that 15 pounds each month was getting taken out of my account without my consent when i finally found out and called them up the guy said they wouldnt refund my money as i could have used the phone i told him i didnt but he said yeah but you could have..then they wouldnt cancel my tarriff or my account the asian guy kept saying no ill give you free month if you stay i kept saying no i wanted to cancel then he called me a english prick for no reason so i wanted to report him and he put the phone down on me.
i had to goto the bank to stop any transactions with 3 network i then started getting letters threw the door saying they wanted 5 pounds too cancel my account.each week i got one higher than the last so i called them up again and yet again transfered to bombay and yet again they were rude and ignorant refusing to cancel and wanted money to cancel my account even though i was on pay as you go and had been with them for years !!
finally i spoke to someone else who said they wouldnt cancel my account but theyd give me free iphone i told them to shove it and told them id be reporting them to watchdog which i did.

AVOID 3 NETWORK ITS EASY TO JOIN BUT THE 24 MONTH CONTRACT WILL BE MUCH MUCH LONGER ITS BETTER GO FOR THE TESCO DEAL.
#20
why is the 8GB 3GS the same price?

I've ordered a free PAYG sim from Tesco and Three and see which reception is better.

Another plus point with 3 is after your contract ends, you can 'negotiate' a new one. For the past two years I have 3 x phones (okay, no free upgrades and bought new unlocked ones from mobiles.co.uk) and pay only £5 pcm each. I only get 300 minutes & 100 texts which is more than enough. I never text and usually only use around 50 minutes. For me, a phone is just for speaking to someone. I am tempted with an iphone though just for the ease of use of apps and especially the notes facility as I carry around a fair bit on my itouch; medication lists for everyone in the family, passwords for everyone (as they all forget and phone me for reminders) etc. I was using an e-ten mobile using win 6.x pro (Acer now make these) but you have to use notepad or Word which was a pain to find them afterwards (a reason I stopped using my Dell x51v PDA).

A lot of people slate the iphone but as siad, for me the ease of use and clarity seems great. I did look at the HTC Hero for £170 (referb with 3) but have not seen the android system and if it has the same kind of ease of use for notes etc as the iphone.
We only have Carphone Warehouse near me and they are prats. 'hi, could I see xxx phone please?'
'The box is in the window'.
'No, I'd like to see one, see the apps etc'.
'Buy one then as we do not have any demo phones. All phones are in their sealed boxes so if you want to hold one, buy it first'.
'Do you have any info on it?'
'Buy it and read the manual'.

Really handy that.

Errr, this is for 24 months (2 years) of calls and texts not 12
#24
Just for Carleast:

Total cost of 32GB 3gs iPhone contract

24months on 3 = £649 for 24 months (£324.50 per year)

12 months on Tesco=£647 for 12 months (£20pcm) + £180 sim only for further 12 months (£15pcm)

3 deal = £649
Tesco = £827

This is a good deal over 2 years, if you dont like 3 then fair enough, if you want to pay for the iPhone 4 the fair enough but please do your maths before replying!

Rather than getting an iPhone 4 it would be a good idea to wait for the 4G, 4G is amazing in the US.

Sounds like a plan! By the way I heard on the grape vine T-mobile are now doing 4G phones but they are not advertising them, you have to ask for one when your upgrading!
Not sure how true this is but its worth a punt!

I would have thought it's left over imported stock from when they were only offering the iphone to existing customers. It will also be as stocks last whereas the 8gb 3gs will still be made and offered in the future.

Would you spend money testing it if you know people will buy it regardless? The iphone has never been that great as a phone (which makes it a very expensive ipod touch)

Anyway, poor phone or not, that's what it claims to be so it might get more heat in http://i45.tinypic.com/35ia9s7.jpg

i dont know were your getting your figures from but your wrong the tesco deal is much better for a few reasons..
1) you get club points for any credit bought so that will give you money back each month.
2)you get unlimited texts with all the tesco deals you get a fixed ammount with 3 so if your a heavy texter your quids in.
3)tescos are basically o2 they use the same networks..etc so your getting a much better signal coverage.also i bought a tesco phone a few months ao and it accepted my o2 sim card with no unlocking i cant gaurantee this is the same for all tesco phones but the one i had would accept o2 and the one my mate bought did the same.
4)your only tied for 12 months not 2 years.
5)with the speed apple update there products youll get more money back if you choose too sell it after the 12 month contract than you would if your tied too a 2 year contract.
6)the tesco deal is £647 for the year plus you get initall 1000 points for signing up plus the triple points you earn for your credit and contract payement so that can be a pretty big payout over the year compared too the 3 deal which is £729 and the quidco payback isnt 100 % gauranteed ive bought a few things off quidco and only been paid on 4 things others started tracking then i never got nothing back quidco is hit and miss so i wouldnt count on you getting the money back id rather see it each month in points i can use at a reputable company like tesco.
7) your gauranteed a new phone with tesco unlike 3 were by one phone i had from them was a recon when they swore blind it was new it wasnt because it had someones number in it and a text !!
8)tescos customer services are excellent and in the uk unlike 3 were by its some sweatshop in new dehli.
if i had the cash id get the tesco deal no problem.

Ok lets reply to your answers!

1. Club card point ehh lol, not a deal breaker I earn enough of them buying fruit and veg.
2. Unlimited texts??? If 5000 (that's five thousand) is not enough each month then you have problems!
3. Tesco use O2, so their phones will accept O2 sims cards duhhh!
4. You only get 12 months, 3s deal is for 2 years worth of calls, texts and internet you moron!
5. Give the Sim to your MUM after a year then she will have 500 mins, 5000 texts and 1gb of internet for 12 months for free! Take out a new contract and the price is the same!
6. OK, back to the clubcard points, please refer back to answer 1. As for Quidco, this site thrives on it so its prob your fault its not gone through!
7. Are you sure it wasn't from a gypsy market (stall number three)? Maybe you should buy from a reputable source the next time lol.
8. Im not here to promote 3, im on t-mobile and always will be lol, TESCO (The English Supermarket Company) are great but they're new to the game and are just a re-badged O2.

Good luck with the future mate, I'm not here to pick a fight but it works out the best deal for a 32GB iPhone 3gs on the market over 24months.

Agree with your comments Jim, I think the issue being with "3" some people on here would vote cold and sl4g off even if they gave a free phone and unlimted calls/text/web for free, just as some will vote cold and sl4g off just because it is an overpriced apple product.
Personally I used "3" for years no problem until last year when the signal became too inconsistant to use at home (as I work from home, that was a major problem) so had to cancel the contract, the call centres are a pain, but their deals are very keen, and apart from at home, I never had a problem with reception.
#39
Been with 3 for years never had any trouble dont really ring the customer services very much still thinking of getting the iphone not sure if i want the new 4 or just the 3gs but i dont really like 2 year contracts as i like getting new phones
#40
i had a 3 contract and not once in 18 months did i have problems. if i didn't just get a new contract with virgin (n900) i would be going for the £30 a month deal (£29 handset 3gs 8gb black) £80 quidco too ?
