02 said last night that due to the short turn-around between anouncement and release that it will not be offering pre-order on this phone.

However mobiles.co.uk are offering the first pre-orders for the 3GS. It promises dispatch on 18 June. Owned by carphone warehouse and offering a £60 Quidco for the pre-order, this is the hottest discount on the new darling.

You can use the £45/month tarriff and get more minutes and cut back to the £30/month tarriff after 9 months on 02.

Total costs (16GB)
18 months @ £30pcm=£713.82 (653.82 after Quidco)
9 months @£44pcm plus 9 months @ £30pcm=£747.98 (£687.98 after quidco)

32GB is £90 more.

(Calculations with VAT of 15%, it will go back up to 17.5% in December)

EDIT: note the attached voucher for a free bluetooth headset.

Interesting.... £60 is a lot of money.... basically pays for the 32gb over the 16gb (or rather pays enough for me to get it).

However, I've heard its better and safer to get it from an apple store, as you then deal with them directly for warranty issues.

Tempting, and voted hot, because its the cheapest, but would be interested in hearing others views.

I've used mobiles.co.uk in the past, but before they were assimilated by the borg.

Why have you calculated the 2nd contract as 21 months as a matter of interest?

Whoops, just a typo. The prices are correct. Edited, thanks.

If only I didn't have 6 months left on my current iPhone contract I would be getting the new 3Gs!
#5
thanks OP just gone for the 32gb ver even though i can't afford it, voted hot as this is the best deal out there at the moment regardless of the price!the way i see it im getting a brand new ipod that makes phone calls and it'll cost less than a tenner a week for plenty of mins/texts and internet, shame about the tethering being extra but ive just been given a 3g dongle for free so yey!
#6
Would the quidco still applying if i was upgrading my expired o2 contract?

Even if you cant, the apps will show as purchased on your itunes account so at worst you'd re-download them.

Ordered and Quidco is tracking.

Do you reckon that people are going to be queuing in the morning outside of the shops to get this?
#15
Just saw on the vouchers bit that if you stick this code in GWBT003 you get a bluetooth headset free.

I regret getting an iPhone 3G every day! Switch fell off after a few days, speakers stopped working, touchscreen faulty..... nightmare!
#17
Send it back for a warranty repair then. I asume you can't becuase you've been abusing it, and that's why it has broken.

Take it back to an Apple store quickly. If it's a 3G it's still under warranty.

Just got refused credit on this as I gave my new house address, even though I own the house and am an exisiting O2 customer who have this new address! Because I dont exist on the electrol roll at this address yet (new build) then I'm not credit worthy aparrently arghh!!

Guess I now have to lie and give my previous address as my current address, good job my housemate still lives there

Sounds like your a bit .. well... can't think of the politically correct way of putting it... but you get the idea.
#22
can you preorder via mobiles.co.uk and keep your existing O2 number? I'm on the simplicity contract.
#23
You should be able to transfer number, I'd just give them a call
#24
I'm interested in doing this as well. I've had different answers from o2, carphone warehouse & mobiles.co.uk.
o2 tried to persuade me to go through them and that it would be easy (but no cashback obviously!)
CPW also said I couldn't transfer if I bought one on-line (but I could magically do it over the phone !?!?!?)
I think it is possible but it may just involve doing it retrospectively rather than confusing the on-line process. They are probably just trying to avoid you taking the cashback (least profitable for them) route.
At the end of the day it's not the end of the world if I can't port my number. It's not as if the tariff has a shortage of texts for you to notify friends & family of the change in number!
.....and you won't get insurance companies and nuisance callers with a new number........

The long and the short of it is that you either can or you can't port and I'm pretty certain you can. It just might involve a bit of chasing up to o2. My priority is to get the handset then sort the number!
#25
Not sure about being able to downgrade from £45 to £30 tariff after 9 months - the FAQ at http://shop.o2.co.uk/FAQ?category=Tariff+questions&question=FAQ_CAN_I_CHANGE_MY_PAY_MONTHLY_TARIFFsays you may only downgrade to the next lower priced tariff, so at minimum you'd have to go £45 then £35 then £30?

Think I will just order on £30 and upgrade to £35 if needed.

The TomTom functionality has been the only thing holding me back from the Iphone 3G last year, promised but not delivered, along with MMS and Cut/Paste function and a decent camera and video calling.

We still dont have video calling or a decent camera on the 3GS yet (which is a shame as every other run of the mill mobile has had it for the last 4 years!)

The TomTom looks good, with its own charger / mount but at what price??? It will probably be dearer than a standalone TomTom unit!

regarding warranty issues for the phone itself, you can deal with apple directly no matter where you brought the phone from as long as you haven't voided the warranty in any way.
they just ask for your serial number and it shows them when the date your phone was activated and your apple international warranty commences from that date.

Considering how sad our country is getting, yes.

I think you can upgrade 6 months earlier on that contract you know, check it out on the o2 site. You are a "Platinum Member", or something to that effect, can't remember exactly.

Sorry I can't provide a link, I've got to get back to work!

Prices haven't been realised yet but hopefully will be soon. The extra cradle isn't required for tomtom to work and is optional, you can buy a £2.99 car charger off ebay and a standard phone stand and have the same thing for a lot less if your so desired.
#32
I can see why some people like them (iPod users) but as a phone it's compromised by the touchscreen (call people by mistake), microphone, and the battery life. Well, the 3G is - if they have fixed those things (I only want to charge once, maybe twice per week) then it could be very good - if still very expensive (purchase cost and monthly rate - I'm unlimited texts and 500mins for £10 a month now)

The cradle is required as it contains an additional GPS chip which overrides the internal iPhone GPS one.

Don't forget to use the code GWBT003 to get a free Jabra Bluetooth 2010 drivepack as well.

Easily the best deal for a new iPhone out there. Surprised it wasn't posted earlier.
#35
Good deal if you can get it to work; website says phone up and I'm not sure if Quidco will work if you phone up and get it put through that way.

Website seems to be down this morning.

Voted hot anyway as it appears to be working for some people and there's no money off anywhere else!

Basically they have sold their allocation of pre-orders and you wont get the quidco if you call to reserve one of the next batch.

Your status is dependent on your average monthly spend ....

Blue: customers will receive Priority Ticketing, Bluebook, fair deal and treats.
Silver: all the Blue benefits plus, proactive 1 month early upgrade, bigger treats, and discounts at the O2 restaurants.
Gold: all the Silver benefits plus, 3 months early upgrade, Fast-Track Customer Service and free ticket offers.
Platinum: all the Gold benefits plus, 6 months early upgrade, VIP tickets and a Personal Account Manager.

You need to call O2 and they will advise you from there. The ticketing relates to the O2 Arena.

The site is owned by Carphone Warehouse, so you are dealing with them and thier systems really. ;-)

Yes, I hadn't spoted that, you need to budget an extra fiver to spend one month at £35.
