Thought I would let everyone know that quidco tracks @ £60 when buying an iphone @ CPW!

Ordered a 16GB Iphone thursday, just checked and my Quidco has tracked at £60.

Unlocking is simple, download a program called ziphone 2.5, plug in the iphone via usb and click do it all, thats it!

So no need to pay over the top for an iphone, get one from £169, and unlock it within 5 minutes of taking out of the box.

I know this isnt a deal as such, as your buying an iphone for R.R.P and Quidco isnt guaranteed, but I thought I would post to let people know.

Hope this helps.

Quick Guide Added:
Steps to get an unlocked iphone!!

1) Purchase an iphone via CPW - with the iphone, you buy it but it isnt activated or anything, and you are not put on a contract, thats a job you do at home, but we will do it a little differently!
2) Before it arrives download ziphone ready. Google ziphone, download and extract.
3) Phone will arrive next day, open the box and admire it for a few minutes (it looks the business)
4) Plug it in via usb, ignore itunes that pops up, just minimize it, and open ziphone
5) Click 'Do it all' - wait around 3 mins, the iphone screen will go black with white writting scrolling through it, like dos! Dont panic
6) Iphone restarts, dada - unlocked, fully activated iphone, without ever giving a single detail via itunes to o2.
7) Get a paper clip, or something tiny and long like that, and press it in the hole up the top of the phone, thats the sim tray, remove the unactivated o2 sim, and place your sim card in the tray, replace the tray
8) Enjoy your unlocked iphone

AS PEOPLE AS STILL ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT GETTING £60 VALIDATED IT BETTER BE MENTIONED THAT Carphonewarehouse responded here that the actual cashback is only £20.

So as per Quidco's statement "£20 for any contract taken out with the IPhone" you are almost certain to get £20 with the phone plan contract.

It might have tracked at £60, but have there been any confirmed payouts of £60? Otherwise they may change it to what it is supposed to be:-

£20 for any contract taken out with the IPhone

Line rental is still on top right?

Not if you unlock it, its as simple as taking it out of the box, plugging it in via usb, download ziphone, click 'Do it all', 4 minutes later, unlocked iphone.

can you just buy these? or are you oblicated to take out the ****** o2 contract as well??

"Although we endeavour to ensure that the percentage or fixed amount quoted for each merchant is accurate, we make absolutely no guarantee that the quoted rate at the time of your transaction will be the actual rate paid by the merchant to Quidco."

It may just be validated as it is a sureshop merchant, not sure though

You dont take out the o2 contract on purchase, you sign up when you activate the phone via itunes, but now you can use software to unlock and activate, so you can use your own sim, the software is brilliantly easy,

I have read that the new second generation 3g iphone is due out in april and latest by june. the shipment of the new iphones is now due. they are trying to get rid of the new stock before the new phones are introduced. so i would wait for the new phone!!

where did you read that? the last id heard there was no confirmed date for the new iphone? and was probably gonna be the last quarter 08. although they said the ipod touch wouldnt be upgraded too quick and the 32gb one is out now!
#17
i have the 8GB iphone still running 1.1.2 as i have been lazy. Whats the latest on edge for PAYG users?
#18
why it is asking me for direct debit detailes after I put my credit card detailes to pay £269. I don't want to sign a contract is this normal???
#19
Gone for it. Thx to OP.

EDIT: £60 tracked.

Dont be fooled .... The quidco tracks but later the CPW decline the transaction if the contract is not signed upto..

So if you plan on purchasing the iphone but not signing up to a contract then quidco will not be paid even though it does track now.

Hope this helps

there will be a new 3g iphone this year, I am expecting it to be announced at WWDC in June and released 3+ months later.

Unlike the computer products, new phones have to be submitted to the federal communications commission some months prior to release to be approved. This means there should be at least 3 months warning before the 3g iphone is released. Apple will want to announce it themselves, rather than the details leak from the FCC.

I am waiting the 3g iphone with interest. I think I may wait until 2009 before i jump onboard.
#22
For people who just want to use pay as you go any network the Ziphone application as mentioned will make it sim free instantly and with no hassle.

I use mine on wifi hotspots all the time so edge or waiting for 3g is no problem.

If your going to use your O2 Sim card, you could just 'jailbreak' the phone, but you will still have to use the software, it wont work with your sim straight out of the box.

probably a stupid question here..but,if you unlock the phone, then activate i tunes wont that relock it,or dows itunes still work ok,also does all the features of the phone still work with other service providers

Itunes doesnt relock it unless you update, which isnt forced. All features of itunes works, and it syncs without any problems. as for the features, I am using mine on o2, and everything works, but Im not sure on other service providers, I will put my t-mobile sim in now and have a look for you.
#27
i think you can still use itunes just if you let it update the firmware it will re-lock it again, you wont get visual voicemail as its o2 only. you ll probably have to manually configure some settings for internet and mms etc and if your on t-mobile they dont support edge so you ll be stuck on gprs.
#28
so my best option after unlock is probably an 02 payg sim and ignore itunes updates?
#29
i dont get this at all. how do you get out of the contract?????????

if you agree to purchase this then you have to have the contract dont you??

if you dont have a contract they will chase you down and make you pay the money you should have for the contract wont you??

any help would be ace.

Strangely enough it doesnt work like that with the iphone, you buy the phone, without the contract, and activate using itunes at home, if you bipass the activation by using ziphone, you get a contract free, unlocked iphone.

CPW did call me yesterday, to see how I was getting on with the iphone, and to offer me the insurance, I told them I had since sold the iphone to my friend as I didnt like it, and he said 'thats fine sir, no problem'

The calls and text works, downloaded a file through the installer, and the net works! I also have a t-zones icon now though, so I will have to uninstall that!

No, I bought it online, you buy the phone, without a contract, I know it seems strange, but thats why there are so many unlocked iphones on ebay, people buy them without a contract, bipass activation and unlock via ziphone, and sell them on for a profit, for what literally is 5 mins work.

and this is for sure how it works? as i would love one but dont want the contract.

how long have you had yours and is it possible to stop it updating to a contract.

I also assume you cant update the phone as it will have a fix on it to stop unlocking?
#37
it doesnt support mms though does it? or is there a way round that?
#38
i am looking through the T&G and trying to see if this is true. i cant believe it is.

Yea there is away around it, there are so many apps available for the iphone its unbelievable, but there is now a way to add an mms function and t-mobiles settings.

so in all honesty how do you find the phone, plus sides and down sides? ive had a windows mobile phone for years and love them. but the iphone looks the business!
