Picked up one of these at my local (Lewisham) Poundland the other day - got it for 50p as it was unboxed... but several others on the shelf still!
anyway - got it working with my iPhone 4 (jailbroken) - TV out for everything displayed on the handset using two pieces of free software:
DisplayOut and Resupported4 (original Resupported for 3G / 3GS I believe). Anyway - it works! no idea if it works for 2G...

if it works with iphone 4 its hot
#2
yes - I have iPhone 4 iso 4.0.1 - but as 4.2.1 has also been jailbroken, it should work with all :)
#3
Does this even show sky sports from the iphone
#4
anything :) - I had games, main interface, TV (from tvcatchup.com and iPlayer) and some other apps!
resolution wasnt bad either.
Displayout has settings for Component and VGA (although auto-detected my composite).

dealextreme has loads of these cables for $5 odd inc delivery too - but @ 50p i couldnt resist!!

Hot! Where did you find the free version of DisplayOut?
#6
Any idea if this would work on a 4G iPod Touch?
#7
I'd expect so, simply don't have one to confirm. As far as I'm aware the apps on the ipod are the same as on iPhone - so that'd be a 99% chance it would

true - but its only now that you can use them on devices with ios newer that 3.0.3 - because after that version Apple stopped 3rd party cables from working with some "Genuine Authentication" code (or equivalent BS)...

Using redsn0w but it's a tethered jailbreak at the minute meaning if your phone turns off you need to connect it to the computer and run the jailbreak software again for it to boot.

They are testing an untethered jailbreak at the minute. http://blog.iphone-dev.org/redsn0w

oddly when updating some apps via Appstore (such as Skype to allow 2way video for example) you get a warning, but ignore it - the update still applies and works :)

i agree. And compared to Symbian, it's childsplay. Although symbian^3 does offer hdmi output now.

I would assume so if Ipad Displayout and resupported4 can be loaded on it:

Jailbreaking an idevice and rooting (most) android phones are about as simple as each other. Except the android phones can usually be rooted almost immediately after release.

For the people recommending the redsn0w . You shouldnt be. Its Beta, it requires a previously jailbroken device, and its not yet working with bluetooth & skype.

Its really for testers only at the moment. If you want to use it thats fine, but encouraging others shouldnt really be taking place yet.
#33
according to the website its audio out only

With android you have to unlock the bootloader which at the moment unless modaco has sorted something only htc can relock it, but with iOS just a case of restore and it's wiped ,no installing apk files no messing with rom after rom only to find 1 thing works and 1 doesn't iOS has ultimate support from every angle ,the beta again is fine for the untethered jb anything goes wrong a restore is all that is required and no one is the wiser.

should do - if you can install displayout and resupported4, then I'd estimate a 99% success chance
