And you've got to promise not to laugh for no reason.

Ha ha ha, oh my.

This is a neater solution but you can get the RCA AV cable on its own (to let you watch your iPod video through a TV) on eBay for under a fiver usually. Still a good deal though.

Worth the extra if you don't have a mains adaptor (which would be another £5-6 for a cheap one).

Good find.

Yes and No. I asked the question when I saw this elsewhere. They work as a dock and for audio but the video out won't work on the new ipods as they have changed the chip or pinout of the new ipods. Apparently only the Apple dock works at the moment which is why all these are selling cheap. Still a good price for what it is. There is a Kensington one at Richer sounds for the same money if you're in the VIP club that has a RF remote.

Nice find

Thanks

I had a feeling all the Ipod accesories would start to be reduced because of the release of the new desgin which chances are wont be compatible with all the old accessories!!!!!
#27
Plenty in stock round the Halifax and Derby areas.

Apple have just updated the new iPods firmware to enable 3rd party docks.

So if i got my ipod classic, and put it on this, what would i have to connect to play my music out of it?
speakers?
and if so can anybody recomend some small but cheap ones?

Bargain, voted hot + rep given.
#31
Thanks OP, voted hot and repped. Managed to pick up one of these at my local argos for a tenner. Been looking for one for a while, a real bargain at this price.

I have one of these - and it's excellent. Connect it up to your Amp / Hi-fi and set it on shuffle play for your parties.

We have done this for a few BBQ's we had this year, and it is a fantastic way to output your iPod tunes into the living room, conservatory and garden.

The only shame is that it does not output the covers to the TV - now that would be cool.
#33
Just a word of warning, if you have the new iPod Classic or Nano I would think that the video out probably won't work on this item. Apple have changed the system for displaying video from the dock connector - only allowing their own cables to work (currently). I'm not certain..I don't have this item..but take into account that the video out may not work on this.
#34
Would I be able to use the dock with THIS TV?

he's right it wont work because
The new iPods’ much-disliked TV Out lock has been changed, but not eliminated. Apple’s new implementation enables you to choose from On, Off, or Ask options under Video Settings, but when you go to output video with On or Ask, you are prompted with newly locked second screens to connect an Apple-authorized, authentication chip-equipped accessory in order to start the video playing.

Brief tests with prior Made for iPod video accessories have shown that playback can still be triggered there under unusual, inconvenient circumstances, such as starting playback on an Apple-authorized accessory, then disconnecting it and reconnecting it to an old accessory, but simple, uninterrupted playback on old video accessories is clearly still not supported in the new Software Update. This is unfortunate, as old devices work acceptably once the iPods have been unlocked, demonstrating that the restriction has not been imposed for technical reasons.

i have a 80gb classic which i have a apple tv dock and that works great but with this dock its a no go

Cool, Just ordered one thanks. I only really need a dock for my PC but this is even better. Cheers! muahaha

Bear in mind that this will only do interlaced SVideo, if you have a new nano or classic and a telly with component in, then you can get 480p or 576p progressive scan output from it with the appropriate lead.

i'm a bit confused... i reserved one of these at my local store, but it didn't ask for my name, so how do they identify that it was me who reserved it online?

edit: just checked my email and i see that they give you a reservation number - question answered! great deal by the way, i've been looking for a cheap one of these for a while now and can now justify this as i have argos vouchers leftover from last xmas.
