IPOD classic (shelf was saying £189) scanned for £170 and the lady gave me a £25 Itunes voucher as well. she said it's on promotion but seemed a bit dull and didn't know when it ends.

if you are after one for xmas may be worth a look. may have been local with the price error but as she said there was a promotional offer i'd guess it's nationwide :)

btw... i know u can get the ipod alone cheap slightly cheaper but given it's got the itunes voucher with it makes it better than anything online at the moment :)

Are people still buying these ipod classics?

Would take a Touch over this anyday, but still a hot price though.

i'd rather put my entire music collection on 1 tbh mate :) i see the pro's to the touch but the classic has bigger HDD and that's wat i need :)

That's what I did when I got mine. Didn't fancy forking out over £300 odd quid for the 32 gig (largest when I got my classic) which was no way near enough. So got the 80 gig classic for £200 odd

Agree that the touch looks better but for sheer size the classic wins hands down if you have a lot of music to put on it.

Extra storage and better battery.

160GB vs the puny Touch? I wouldn't get a tenth of my CD collection on those things so the 160GB wins hands down!

I've had my ipod classic 160gb for over a year now. why would I want a touch when I can get all my music, movies and music on this and still have 100gb left.

thanks!

I've just got an 160GB classic for my new cars I-pod system (wish I had seen this deal before) there's not much need for a I-pod touch in the arm rest and the classic is cheaper and holds a lot more music. As nice as the touch is its not always the best choice for everyone heat added.

OP, this sounds great, however, just before I rush out to buy one, could you let me know where you can get the iPod alone slightly cheaper, as you say? Many thanks
#13
Shame it's not online at ASDA Direct with Quidco
#14
cracking deal, might pop down to my local asda to see if they have got any.
#15
Does anyone know how much these are at Dixons Travel in the airports? ...I seem to remember them being £160 but cant quite remember....

the touch is just a gimped iphone for cheap folks. the biggest one doesn't even hold half what my classic holds, and my iphone 4 does more than the touch does

the classic is also good to use as a portable HD, and put portable apps like firefox on to use at work whilst you charge your ipod, and keep your personal data off your work pc
#17
Each to their own! Classic is great for those with more than 64GB of data. My touch still has over 20GB free on the 64GB model, it's flash based and can do a lot more than the classic! But this is a great deal if I had a bigger collection I'd get this.
#18
Oh and uni not everyone needs or wants an iPhone! The touch is a great secondary device goes nicely with my BB Bold!
#19
Great for storing your entire music collection, and tons of videos compared to the Touch. But the drawback is the little screen.
If you pick up an overpriced official component cable you can connect it to your TV which is cool

I use my Classic in the car and the gym mainly. It's far more robust than my iPhone 4 so I don't worry about it being damaged when lifting weights or doing cardio. The iP4 is great for real-life but my classic is far more useful when it comes to having all my tunes in one place.

Just rushed to my local Asda (Trafford) - the iPod itself was indeed £170, but the £25 iTunes gift card is only meant to be free with the Touch models. I endured about half an hour of the assistant ringing various managers before being told the iTunes card was not included with the iPod - when she scanned both items it came up as £195, so the OP was very lucky to get the £25 card free. Jealous, moi?

With a classic you have the option to dump the itunes cr*pware which is great. Pretty sure the touch needs itunes cr*pware....

Before I got to store and get one of these, can the OP post a photo of the receipt as proof please ??

Top deal - I have a classic with 70gb of music/films etc so its perfect for in the car (aux input), then my iphone is used as the phone through car kits works a treat if you want to access everything in one hit without issue of syncing etc.

Also you get less hassle/bugs with a classic!
#25
i got my 80G classic 1st gen for over 2.5 years. still works fine and still got a few gig left.
#26
I am on a classic as well, have an iphone but prefer the classic for the storage capability, battery and durability.

Also think its a bit off that the OP refers to the shop assistant as dull for not knowing when deals expire, there must be hundreds of ASDA deals at any one time and to expect an assistant to be able to recall the end date of any given one seems unreasonable

I think the cheapest for the unit alone is bestbuy - £176 - quidco/ TCB = about £150(ish).
Hope this helps

Iv had my Ipod classic for about a year now and its the best thing ever.. i dont know why people bother with shuffles, nanos, touches etc. you can fit everything in a classic.

That was certainly my experience at the Trafford store - when both the iPod and gift card were scanned, the total price was £195, and after much argy-bargy, I was told that the gift card was only given out with the iPod touch, not the Classic, and that was why the £25 did not come off at the till. I still bought it as £170 was the cheapest I'd seen and I could get my hands on it straight away.

You don't get the iTunes voucher with the classic.
The iTunes voucher offer is only valid with an iPod Touch.
There were posters at my local Asda store saying this and I checked with the assistant at the counter.
#33
dunno whether it was a limited offer or just had a dim member of staff but she seemed to think it was a valid offer.

I bought one from them a few weeks ago at that price and TCB tracked no problem.

na man :( if only ...if u want to get it online go for quidco instead ...few posts have been posted for itune card deals in last few days may be worth a look at that option

If youve got an iphone and when you want more storage space theyre brilliant. Especially if youre going on holiday. Saves having to take your laptop. Ive filled an ipad with music and movies so have been able to free up space on that.
Defintitely a good price too i paid £20 more than that.

I think I'd like to get a new Ipod classic - the deal via quidco sounds pretty good, but I can't work out which retailer 'TCB' refers to in the above posts. Can anyone enlighten me?
