To be honest, you might aswell spend the extra 20 quod on the 3rd generation, its about 60% more powerful.

still a good deal though, and 60% is a big claim

The cpu is about 25% more powerful, but the gfx chip has been changed from the 'light version' to the full powervr SGX chiset, that combined is about 60% more powerful, also the graphics substructure has been upgraded to openGL 2.0 from 1.1

Only for the 32GB and 64GB versions though, the 8GB has kept the old hardware.

wats the point when u dont see the difference? Ok it might be 1 second faster but thats probably it.

well application developers are making enhanced software for te more powerful chipset and web pages are rendered allot faster.

Its really only on web browsing and games you will notice the speed difference, but its like buying the old fat ps3 for £230 when the new slim one is out for £249.99

So is pretty much everyone else as well I would think, hoping for a few online peeps to be getting these to save me trawling through 101 Tesco's to find one with one actually available and maybe even a couple of retailers more desperate to get rid of them :whistling:

The new 64gb is available £260 from Dixons tax free if anyone is passing through an airport.
Twice the memory for an extra £51 quid. It's surprisingly easy to fill them up with video, pictures, music and endless apps!

For one thing, Apple will eventually update the firmware so you can run mutliple apps at the same time, that way you don't have to kill whatever you are in to go check your email. Guess what, having more power is going to be a massive bonus when you are running two or more applications at the same time on the device.

And that is to say nothing of the applications that on their own are starting to really push the hardware. There are already lots of apps that no longer work on the older versions of the iPhone and Touch.

You have to realise that the iPod Touch is essentially a new kind of portable computer. Your comment is akin to saying 'Well why do I want a faster laptop?", because it will be more future proof, won't need upgrading as soon etc etc.

Is there a way to tell a 2G and 3G 32GB apart when your buying it? Like does it say on the case somewhere?
#14
old model, poor deal only £20 cheaper than the 3G, surely these will get much cheaper as the stores get their new stock of 3Gs
#15
I think it's a poor deal, much better getting the 3rd gen one for an extra £20. Free delivery and engraving at apple store and 4% Quidco too.
#16
It's still cheaper though.
#17
I have a 2nd gen 32gb touch. Very happy with it....this one lkasted at least two - three months before apple released a cheaper, bigger capacity version.

well maybe this will chance with whomever takes steve jobs place after he is dead. not going to wish the guy death just for this of course, but it would be interesting to see what happens to this company once he does whither away more than he already has.

Bit of a novice when it comes to these.

Would like to get latest model (3gen) but can't tell the difference.

Does CDiscount stock the 3rd gen version yet?

Yeah, but by that token the 8gb for £208 would be a hot deal, there's a comparison to be made and 10% for the latest model is nothing when you're spending this.

If you just want space, this is a poor deal, Apple's own iPOD classic is £20 cheaper than this for over 5 times as much space.

If you want videos and apps, this is a poor deal, Apple's own new model is only £20 more and does both better, especially apps which will rapidly start becoming "New model only".

We're not comparing say, Apple to Creative here, we're comparing like for like and at this price the series 2 32gb doesn't make sense.

good capacity great little piece of kit and at the end of the day it has £73 off:?dont see how its not a good deal, yes the 3rd gen is £20 more but that's neither here nor there. the ipod classic is boring and you cant compare it to a touch at all!
#24
He's making a valid comparison as some weigh up the size and not the functionality, even though it seems silly to us to do that. It's £20 off in comparison to the newer prices and models, which is still a saving.
#25
Still think it's not a great deal, got the 3rd gen 32Gb arriving tomorrow from apple for £229 (£220 with Quidco).
It's engraved for free which is nice cos it's a present for someone.
Has faster processor which I'm sure will be needed more and more and has voice controls.
#26
I am staggered that some people think it's worth saving £20 and buying old gen tech, when spending upwards of £200 on a computing device :whistling:

any good :-D

Don't forget the £10 voucher if buying the 3g from Argos at £229.
#30
Fantastic, was for my sons 16th. I can't compare it directly to a 2nd gen, but reviews I have read say it is much faster. For £20 saving there is no way I would get last years model.
And the free engraving is a nice touch.

Does yours still work? Yes? Then what's the problem

Anything you buy technology wise is effectively outdated the minute you've bought it, same with all those muppets on mac forums who post that they're waiting for the next chipset 6 months down the line.
