  probably because new one is coming out, just checked the daughters 8gb one and it has over 600 songs and about 40 apps. full now though :)

  You can buy refurbished ones from Apple and there are some decent prices on there, depending on how picky you are with which generation you want.
  
  I know I'm comparing apples with pears, but I've had refurbished items from Apple and they have been as good as new, not sure what the iPods are like, but I'm sure they too will look like new.

  It's worth checking I think.
