Yeah good price but you can get so much more storage on a classic or nano for similar money, I would love a touch but too expensive for the storage you need!

Voted hot here!

yes, the touch has wifi, and allows internet, email etc

As far as I know the new one has a slighly thinner body, volume controls on the side and built in Nike transmitter/reciever (used to use an attachment). Also it supposedly has better battery life + it has the new software to allow games etc. and a built in speaker

These older models may be a false economy, the new models get 6% off (Quidco) at the UK apple store making the 8Gb ones only £19 dearer.

The old models may have the much older software pre installed and apple are charging $9.99 in the US for the new update if the software on the ipod is below a certain release; so in the UK it's probably £12-£15 so it may work out almost exactly the same.
#13
would rather pay £30 more for 20 more hours of battery
#14
I'd certainly think more about the new touch because of the additions.. ESPECIALLY the speaker - it's invaluable for me.

However, if PC World have it in stock.. then that makes it another £6 cheaper, better than nowt!

It's £5.99 not £15

Another thing to remember is if you get the Touch from Apple you can get free laser engraving on the back, which is cool for presents.

LOL I just assumed it would be loads more for 'rip off britain' £5.99 not so bad pretty much an exact currency conversion.

The internet is a bit useless without the phone capabilities. I'd hate to have to keep trying to see if I was within a wifi zone on the off-chance...

I bought a 16gb iPod Touch about 2 months ago for £200 and my only regret is not knowing these new models were around the corner.

Cosmetically, they are the same, only the newer model is slimmer and the Wi Fi antenna looks better. The screen is the same. My main gripe is with the hard volume controls and the lack of speaker in the old model. It's insane. I can understand the lack of internal speaker as they make so much off them seperately, but hard volume controls? A must! Also, in terms of capacity, I wouldn't really reccomend 8gb unless it's just for really casual use. After putting my music on there i'd already used up around 8gb, and that was before putting movies on there and downloading applications.

Also the new models will be cheaper, so I could have gotten a 32gb Touch for the same price i paid for my 16gb (After staff discount and vouchers.)

Rant over. Very good price for a top of the range piece of kit.

Apple have updated their iPod range every September since iPods came out

If you ever plan to buy an Apple product check the Macrumors buying guide first...

Well then my main gripe is them including things now that should have been in it from the start, but I guess that's how the money is made.

^ That is like saying every car ever made should have hybrid engines, as that is likely what people in the future may buy. If you dont/didnt like the original touch - dont buy it.

Not really. I just think it's a bit silly to not include hard volume controls when the primary use of the thing is to play music. Personally I think it's just a way of getting more people using the screen over buttons, and obviously it didn't work so they added them.

And I bought the iPod knowing it's flaws, but the WiFi and touch controls won me over. I'm not bashing it, it's the best gadget i've ever owned, but i'm just dissapointed that vital things were overlooked.

were there any advertisements of offers on the old classics?
#24
My Tesco were out of stock. I bought one from currys direct for £139 with updated software. They are one of the few places that still have stock.

No advertisements, but check the page and see if there are. :)

i always wondered who is that girl in th e picture

I got one of the old ones (for free admittedly) and its biggest problem for me is the lack of speaker built in but most MP3 players don't have one. I use a bluetooth transmitter and headset and these devices are the ****. I take it everywhere, using wifi means I've got the net at the touch of a button. But I'd say if you got the wonga spend it on the newer version.
#28
I like my 1st gen though hard volume controls would be nice.

I don't see aspeaker as that useful apart from video's. Nothing more annoying than kidz on the bus playing their *** tunes on tinny mobiles etc
#29
The speaker on the new ipod touch's is horrible! we sell them at my work and had them in since last thurs/fri as well as the new nano (which looks really nice in the blue) and had a chance to play around with it, admittedly it feels nice to hold with the curved back, the physical buttons are pretty tough to press and the built in nike+ is definitely a plus for people that run, however as mentioned above the speaker is seriously rubbish, the output level is so low its difficult to hear unless you're in somewhere completely silent, kind of a good thing though so you don't get any asbo's playing their music loudly on the tube or bus so a god send to be honest.

Though one would probably know this already if they're in the market for a Touch/iPhone, the resolution on them is not the 640x480 that is in the OP, but 320x480. However, if the advertisement says that, can I go whine and complain that mine doesn't have that resolution and get a further discount? :P

They would prob just tell you to send it back if you are not happy with it...
