Seems like a good deal

Whats the best case to go with this so it doesn't get scratched but you can still see the chrome back?
#6
Nice one, £204 seems a good price for the 16gb one as well!

i`m more than happy with my 16gb 1st gen i got from argos for the same price
i picked up an external clip on speaker from DX for under £3 and it does the job for external sound

4% quidco @ pixmania as well ;-) brings it to under £150.

Good price

Word of warning - new ipod touch and iphones will not sync using anything other than itunes.
Older ipods could use a various other tools and applications to sync music across (and sometimes the other way)
Apple are in the process of starting legal action against the makers of external applications. So now no chance of these working ever again
(I've got an iphone - its going on ebay shortly , im never buying apple again)

Yes, but they were 1st generation! 2nd Generation are sleeker & Apple has managed to make the touch look better, work better, and deliver more features,” Sitting “in a class by itself,” the new iPod touch receives a perfect 5 stars from Cliff Edwards (businessweek.com)

Legal action didn't stop people developing DVD rippers out of decss, I bet there will still be 3rd part sync apps. Agree with your sentiment though, I'm sick of these monolithinc operations acting like they still own the hardware you buy.

According to wikipedia it is actually a tiny bit thicker. The only perks with the 2nd gen are the longer battery life, external speaker(which will rape the extra battery life) and external volume control. I just got one of the 16gb ones for £140 and they are fantastic pieces of tech regardless of which model you get.

Just bear the differences in mind when you for out more for the new model.

Edit: It also comes with nike+ receiver built in !
#15
arent argos selling the 16gb for £148?
#17
The only difference to talk of the the Nike+ function and a claimed better battery life, with minor aesthetic changes.

Very tempted and a great price, will sync nicely with the Sony system I bought thanks to hotukdeals from Comet (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/276086/sony-cmt-bx70dbi-dab-micro-system-w) and I only use iTunes on my Mac anyway.

Love the idea of the iPhone 3G and want the functionality but mobile coverage is lousy out here in the sticks and don't want to pay the o2 tariff when I have a nice Virgin Media mobile + broadband deal that gives me all I need for £15 a month (offered a couple of years ago, not sure if they are still doing it), particularly as BT can only carry 512k out here though still offers us the option of paying for an illusory 8GB.

Sorry, the Argos model for 128.97 is 1st Gen.

The Dixons model is 2nd Gen.

I got my 16gb 2nd gen priced matched against the Argos 1st gen the other week.

I must say that the speakers are a plus for watching youtube etc and the fact that the audio jack is also microphone enabled will be a big swing against the 1st gen for those wanting to use it for Skype. The volume buttons on the side are a big plus as you can adjust the volume even when the screen lock has come on.

There are however a few issues with the second gen. Apple have released a new update yesterday/today which solves it's issues with WPA wifi connections however the update has messed up it's abilities to use the BBC i-player.

I've just sync'd my 2nd Gen Touch with itunes (about an hour ago) and am currently using my touch now to write this message...im in the middle of watching Spooks on BBC I-player and i have a WPA Wifi Connection i dont seem to be having any problems. Anyone else having problems?

Although the features of the 2nd Gen are better than 1st Gen i.e. extended battery life, external volume controls, Nike + support built in, external speakers etc, 2nd gens cant be jailbroken yet.:x

Ooo... good!! I'm in the process of installing the new firmware now so I'll let you know if I'm so lucky.
I've read about the problems on the apple discussion forum here:

I dont understand why basic Ipods have 120gb hd which mainly store small music files, when Ipod touch 2nd generation are 8, 16,32bg max and are supposedly designed for bigger video files.

The Ipod classic has a hard drive, the touch has flash memory. No moving parts and allows it to be thinner.

[QUOTE=a1]I dont understand why basic Ipods have 120gb hd which mainly store small music files, when Ipod touch 2nd generation are 8, 16,32bg max and are supposedly designed for bigger video files.[/Q I have been VERY tempted to go for an Ipod Touch in the last few weeks, But on investigating them quite a bit I think I can wait a bit. True the capacity isnt much for video, 8 gb will hold about 3/4 movies, let alone all the other bits and bobs you would want. BUT the main problem for me is that the Wifi is NOT full wifi. Okay you can watch Iplayer and YouTube and browse much of the Net, and I was very tempted until I found (I believe) you cannot download Podcasts over public wifi. I was hoping I could pop into McDonalds/Wetherspoons and quickly download Radio 2 podcasts, and News Headlines...but, it appears, I cant.........(is this true?). Seems all One can download over Wifi is Itunes MUSIC only.:x

Whats the best case to go with this so it doesn't get scratched but you can still see the chrome back?

You can get a see-through case from Zagg. It's called an invisible shield and is made from the same material that is used to tip helicopter blades and it will definately stop ur ipod touch getting scratched as they show a video of one being tested on an ipod touch.

It is available for both the 1st and 2nd gen touch.

The link:
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/ipod/touch/

The shield is extremely thin too so does not change the look of your ipod.
