Voted hot,

Was once the most expensive stretch of water in the world, good to claw a few quid back from the robbing gits

I agree (and I'm sure everyone else agrees too!) with Adiebear. Wightlink / Red Funnel are rip-off merchants. And being an Islander, it'd be nice if we could get off this Island for a reasonable price!

Heat added to OP, rep for Adiebear!!

hmm... think it was £32 to take a car and passengers from southampton for red funnel... so for an extra £7 you can take your car if 5 passengers are going.
#4
Yeah, wight link basically take the P. £57 to take a normal sized car there and back.

It's no wonder going over to the isle of wight is like going back to the 70's.

Yup. So expensive to cross by car it makes any cheap holiday quite expensive :-(

I though the Chain Ferry was the most expensive stretch of water to cross (especially when the tide's out!)

should be a fiver all the time wightlink and red funnel are both tuck ups, you can get flights to other countries cheaper than it is to take a car across a small stretch of water. Good deal for a few days tho

Sandown for a great beach and lots of family things to do near by. Ryde also has a great beach but gets hectic at night. Amazon World, The Zoo (use tesco deals) are great, Ventnor Botantical Garden free (i think..) with a pretty walk down to the beach. The Train at Haven Street is fun, but Brickfields was disappointing. Yarmouth has some great resturants, On the Rocks is great. Cowes during Cowes Weeks is an experanice, although rather boozy, The Festival and Bestival are amazing. Worst experiance was Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park, so I wouldn't recommend and Alum Bay is cheesy but OK if you use tesco deals instead of real money

Overall IOW is great with great people, such a shame the ferry compainies are exploiting their position
