A boxed set of series 1-8 is due out (so presumably these are being sold off first). Bargain Xmas pressie for my daughter who's recently discovered (and loves) Dad's Army. Now where do I get an 'Allo, 'Allo boxed set?

Just had a look at Quidco. 3% cashback on DVDs and save £2 when you spend £20 on all War related products (use the code WAR) - but neither this nor Dad's Army or 'Allo, 'Allo seem to be included!! lol

No shouts of 'rascism', I am surprised!

Well you just did!?

It was a situation comedy, and was based on historical events. So any perceived racism is more to do with the period of time the series is set in.

This is showing it's age a tiny bit now, but it's stiff a good laugh ;)

Heat!

Yes some episodes can be clearly labelled racist & homophobic by today's standard but most revoolved around the company & was simple "family fun" not like modern sit coms which are badly made, not funny, rude and push the limits of taste & decency.

Don't expect any hint of racism in a single one of these episodes. I know someone that has this set and it's edited beyond belief. So much of the essence of the show is gone. As stated by other people, the jokes reflected the times, as bad as that was ,it's a shame that classic shows like these have been butchered to fit in with society today. Just look at how much was lost from the Only Fools and Horses boxset!

The irony is, programmes like Love Thy Neighbour and And sickness and in Health etc tackled racism in a non confrontational manner, with humour. Showing the bigots as foolish characters. It's a shame more people don't realise this. The way issues like this are tackled these days are cringeworthy at best.

Agreed! In Love thy Neighbour there was only one character made to look an idiot.

Get caught with a pre-censored 'It ain't half hot mum' in your DVD player and expect to be put on the register for anti-social and cultural diversity subversion. I had my Only Fool's video collection confiscated last year. The early series were edited, anything not conforming to today's ideological standards was 'airbrushed' out. They returned it with a sticker on the side saying socially approved. I was threatened by a PC Plod (very apt title today) that anymore and I could be arrested for hate crime.

I'm thinking of joining the underground with their mass of politically incorrect material stored away in secret caches. Get caught and it's the re-education camps for you though.

Beware, won't be too far away. The New Left. Smiling middle class pseudo-intellectuals that think they know better than everyone else.

lol. Sad but true :(

And worryingly, maybe not far from the truth before very long!
