Was posted a few back back but was a quid more expensive and expired.

Next best deal is £11.56.

Is £3.99 but I could manage to use the £1 voucher when i signed up with a new email address. Making it £2.99.

Is region free which i believe means will work on all dvd players.

Is this the one with the poor transfer?
#2
I just looked and it was £3.99, still cheap though.
#3
...well, if it's the one with the rubbish transfer it's not really a bargain is it...for those of us with some standards that is!

Well I thought so. There were some great screen grabs posted in the previous deal.

It's fine. It's black and white. It's £3. Come on. You're going to watch it once a year at most, probably under the influence, it being the season of being 'merry'.

STandards are fine, and perhaps if you're watching it on a 50" screen or projector it might matter, but otherwise, and repeating myself: it's £3. Spot the difference? Who gives a ******

...well, my TV is 50" and this transfer IS a stinker...but, each to their own I s'pose!

...to be honest this is the sort of thing you'd expect to pick up in Poundland and I still wouldn't buy it!!

Looks more than watchable to me - looks just like a standard B&W movie you see on tv all the time.

For anyone wondering the screen captures from the 4 different versions are at the bottom of the page. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare/wonderfullife.htm

I bought this and it really does look and sound terrible, so bad I went out and bought the universal studios R2 release.

the transfer looks fine to me - perfectly watchable and no worse than most B&W films shown on tv

I hope you meant the Paramount R1 60th Anniversary release which is still far superior to the latest R2 Universal release.

No, I managed to find the UK release for 3.99 on sale obviously before the Christmas interest in the movie pushed the price back up everywhere, compared to this one it was like HD ;-)

The R1 does look superior quaility to the R2.
The R2 looks blurry in comparison.
I was surprised that the colourised version looks as good as it does.

Thanks for the replys re the transfer quality. We have a 46" TV so I'm guessing it's going to be horrendous :( I will wait and see how bad it is. I can always watch it on my DDs TV which is smaller.

The colour version looks awesome. Any ideas where to get a good price?

In the day and age of having DVD\Blue Ray and high res\def screens why would anyone want to purchase a version of a film that you may as well watch on 20 year old TV?

Each to there own I spose but if you want to make the most out of your equipment...

Probably because that's why we like black and white films. There's a certain atmosphere/ambience about watching it "as it was". Same reason as you don't buy a classic car and put power steering, heated seats, aircon etc in it. I like it because it is an old film and part of the "homeliness" atmosphere of it is because it is old fashioned. Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid is not an "old" film but they made it in the 80's in black and white and cut old films into it for a reason :-)
I might not want to buy a classic car myself but I sure as hell understand why someone would want to even if it's not my cup of tea. Gonna buy this just as it is. The new cleaned up version looks fantastic and the colourised version looks great too but think this is the one to buy FOR ME as I don't want to see it cleaned up as it will lose the feeling in the film for me.
Whatever version you buy...enjoy it and buy the one you want..lol
