This is an excellent player. It lacks a bit of volume I think, although this can be sorted! Now where can I get a cheap 16GB micro SDHC?

Setting the player to Rest of the World rather than europe cures it

Doesn't it come with the latest firmware? I ordered a £35.50 one last night, I guess I can check when it arrives - and it will definitely be assigned "rest of the world" as its geographical area!

It is so small.. almost tempted to get one to replace my iPod Classic....

IMO It knocks spots off it's Ipod competitor...the 4gb Ipod Shuffle. Had both

Unlike the Ipod this player is substance over style and no need to use crappy Itunes, just drag and drop files. Unfortunately Sansa don't have the marketing budget Apple have to hoodwink the world into thinking Ipods (other than the touch) are gods gift

Mine didn't but the process was painless. Download the firmware updater and it does it for you

What is the battery life like?
#12
This is much better than an ipod shuffle and at this price thats what you have to compare it to! you cant compare it to a proper ipod because its not in that price range. hot deal

I brought one of these Sunday for £38.90. Great MP3 player, I have given my 4GB to my gf.

Just ordered one of these and at £35.50 it's an excellent price. I will be interested to see how the sound quality compares to my iPod Classic and Sony players.
#17
Surely the ipod classic SHOULD be better due to price and size?
#18
Just ordered one for my girlfriend, she was after an upgrade to her shuffle have some rep

Just a tip.

The updater software is unnecessary . Why have something else that permanently runs on your computer?

On the sandisk forums the latest firmware is there as a drag and drop file. Get it here: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=clip&thread.id=23379

Just download package, unzip, connect sansa to computer, put on root of memory card, disconnect sansa, restart. BOOM! Update done.

Great little player. Love that it plays flac and handles replay gain so that volume is normalised. Can't wait for rockbox to be finished so that I can start scrobbling to last.fm too.

I got mine from currys for £29.99 from this deal here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/656224/sandisk-sansa-clip-8gb-mp3-player-w

So maybe worth checking your local currys or pcworld to see if they have any left.

Cheap at this price too though. Have some heat and rep.

Yes it is, in sound quality at least.

Better in relation to what? The iPod Classic hasn't the best sound quality and the volume isn't very loud, but does have a huge capacity and amazing usability via iTunes. I'm hoping that the SanDisk has good sound quality and due to being a flash player and its clip design it will be more suited to the gym and other active pursuits.
#24
I've got one of these, and use MediaMonkey as an alternative to iTunes. Works very well.

If you do plan to use this down the gym, buy a standard velcro armband off ebay and some earphones with a short cable (I got some dodgy CX300s of amazon, but they do for the gym). Also, if you can, run the cable up the arm of your shirt and out the neck.

Got a set of CX 400-II's and a FIIO-E5 amplifier for when I'm not down the gym. It's a brilliant little player.
#25
Anyone found a good deal on the biggest card that you can use on this? (16GB?) Thanks.

That's the link to the original Clip latest firmware, not the Clip+

I just assumed that for over £150 the ipod classic should be better.....then again it is an apple product

Thanks for the tips. Just receieved a pair of CX 300 II - excellent sound quality. I looked up the FIIO-E5 amplifier which looks impressive. May be helpful in boosting the volume of my Classic

would be easier for most people to just buy a 8gb card for their phone...

Can't plug my phone to the aux socket on my car radio. Nor my mini-speakers when camping. And my phone does not have replay gain and has poorer volume levels.

If it was that simple I would have done it

Depends on your phone (sound quality, battery life etc) I definitely prefer the clip+ to using the walkman on my phone. For one it has a dodgy adapter so you can plug in earphones, the sound quality is nowhere near as good and by using a separate device for music it means my phone doesn't run out of charge all the time and I would rather have charge on my phone than my mp3 player.
#33
Brilliant mp3 player.
#34
weirdly they have the old Clip 8gb for £39.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-Sansa-Clip-Player-Radio/dp/B001GCTR3C/ref=pd_ts_ce_24?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
anyone know any advantage of the older model over the Clip+?

where did you bring it?:?

A good price for a good MP3 player. However, I'd like to highlight -- for anyone considering buying this on impulse -- the player's one significant weakness: its 15hr battery life. 15 hours might seem all right, but it's way below average, as many MP3 players offer around 30 hours.

For it's size it has a very good battery life especially with radio with recording, screen, micro-sd card and sound quality . Bigger mp3 players usually have a bigger battery but are more expensive, heavier and larger dimensions which are not suited to gym uses/ small commute items.

For it's size there is comparisons.
The ipod shuffle has playback time: Up to 10 hours when fully charged.
Philips GoGear Spark: 27 hours (The only real competitor)

Expandable memory, USB mass storage (drag and drop), folder navigation, superior sound quality, more reliable and it HAS A SCREEN.

This is far better than the usual overpriced, underfeatured Apple crap.

Ordered. I have an iPod shuffle 1gb and which I use for running reasonable distances and the gym and I am sick of hearing the same 200ish songs on shuffle! At least with this I won't be hearing the same songs all the time :)

I bought one of these a couple of weeks back from PCWorld for £29.97 - had to go into the shop to get as even phoning didn't reveal they had any left in stock. There was a thread on here regarding that deal. Possibly still worth trying with PC world, dixons or curry's who, I think, were doing a similar deal.

It is a terrific player as standard - even the headphones are half decent, something that ipods have been criticised for. Sound quality really surprised me and I'm a bit of a hifi obsessive, if truth be told :-) With mine, it was volume limited, till I changed a setting. Now, I never go to full volume. Plays back flac files, which is what I wanted, but even compressed files sound very good.

As good as this player is, one thing occurred to me when buying. PC World then had the 4GB clip+ in for £19.97. It made me hesitate whether it was worth paying £10 more for another 8GB given that you can add memory by means of a separate card. Also, the battery is not replaceable, so once it's finished, as I understand, the player is no long any use. That being so, it might be preferable to get the cheapest clip+, as functionality is the same, then bump up the memory with an add on card. That way, when you junk it, the memory card can be reused, and you've only written off £20, rather than £30-£40 for the 8GB model.

Otherwise, I've got little but praise for this music player.
