Mine turned up yesterday. Not opened it yet but hope to have a look at it today or tomorrow. I'm by no means a monitor expert, but happy to post up impressions vs the Philips 1080p monitor I'm currently using (which must be at least 5 years old) if anyone is interested.

Edited By: The Lone Ranger on Dec 09, 2016 10:57
I've owned the U2414H (1920x1080) for a long time and cant fault it, the factory calibration on sRGB was pretty accurate on mine.
You can adjust quiet a bit on these and with the right hardware you can create a new ICC profile to correct any faults.

Have a look at the review on the tft central site and it covers this aspect well
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2415.htm
Wasn't implying you were lying, just saying how it should be. Do you have this monitor or a different one? I've read that you may need to install a program so that the GPU is set up correctly, might not be the monitors fault.

If i could make a recommendation, i ordered this monitor before and it was horrible, with the returns money i bought this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015510P76/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 its a much nicer monitor and cheaper.
But that monitor only has 1920x1080 the Dell is 1920x1200 so not really a good match (although I am a fan of AOC for gaming monitors).
In our office we use the Dells or Samsung who, also make a great work monitor https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-S24E650BW-24-Inch-Monitor-Black/dp/B00X9FA7OC/ref=pd_lpo_147_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=FJW5KMZDNW0YK99QNBDW
However we have dual screens on every computer and the colour calibration on both monitors is shocking! so don't expect to be able to see the same colours even with the same settings.
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't Dell's Ultrasharp monitors have the USP of coming specially colour calibrated from the factory?
This particular model even more so. Reviews state that the calibration report comes in the box and the setup is very good from the factory.

i have two brands new monitors from dell. they came with the sheet from the factory. they are not the same any fool can see it. dell didn't want to know when I raised this with them.

I use one of these at work as well, and am happy with it
I use this at work everyday. Very well made in terms of build quality but image / panel even when driven digitally display a narrow range of washed out colour.

I put up with it at work as you use what you are given to use with no choice, but for home I have an ASUS that is LED backlit Amorphous Si panel and its tremendous.

how is a relatively obscure "Ultrawide" the new standard? I know no-one who has that size of monitor.
1080p is the current standard. 1440p and 4k are the more common alternatives.
Your missing out with your small screen.
I have 2 27" 1440p monitors, one at 144hz i'm pretty happy with the setup currently.

why cold?

Im guessing because it looks he joined just to posr this and therefore probably works for the company.

Though that does look like a good price, for this exact PC. Though same specs can probably be had for less.
Good price for a well-specced SFF - heated!
This will do nicely as a Plex server and HTTP in-one... assuming there's room for a 3.5" HDD in there.

Good price (This was £510 on Amazon a few weeks ago, and higher now), but I strongly recommend checking the return policies for this item, as the UP2716D I received last month (from another vendor) was poor in terms of uniformity and backlight bleed, and had to be returned. This seems to be a common issue unfortunately.

My 23 inch HD screen is 2 MPix. That resolution is as good as I need. If I want (which I do) a 4K screen (i.e. 8MPix) I would want it to be 4 times the area - twice the height and width. I can't see the point in having a 8MPix screen that's only 24 inches across the diagonal. All you get is the same sized text, taking up more pixels and images that are a quarter the size.

In windows the text will get smaller and smaller, as the resolution increases, unless you use scaling, so my 11.8" tablet on full HD is a little difficult to use, whereas the same resolution on my 15" is fine, so this 4K monitor would fall halfway between and I'd get to have more toolbars, wider windows and be able to see more in SQL, Visual Studio, Excel, but perhaps not Word, but it might need a small level of scaling. I would love to have the money to buy one of these, but my wife would notice.

If bigger is always better. Why do so many people wet themselves when a 5" phone has a 1080p screen?
Also if your average DSLR is now 16MP plus, would people be happy seeing 1/8 or 1/2 of there image without resorting to zooming out and losing pixel detail?
This monitor is ahead of your usual 24" monitors if you want to do anything that involves image creation. The colour depth is far better than most, albeit not a professional grade that would cost at least double this.
If you take photography seriously, you could do worse buying this.

I've got an XPS Desktop from Dell. Never had any issues with it that weren't otherwise my fault. The graphics card (Nvidia) did fail - it overheated. The flat I was living in at the time had no proper air con, so the rooms were incredibly stuffy, I'm pretty sure this was the cause. Since replacing it with ATI, no problems (and moving to a different flat)
Their laptops on the other hand don't seem to last long (judging from gf's laptop), but I'm not sure whether this in a general problem due to natural wear and tear of laptops or whether Dell do indeed make poor ones.
You can open a window you know? Do you live in the UK? Can't be many flats in the UK that have air conditioning

What an intelligent individual, or so he thinks.

1) That Summer was incredibly hot, so much so, that opening a window made little difference. If anything, if its hotter outside, then opening a window makes things worse because the hot air will tend to travel indoors if the room is cooler.

2) No, there was no proper functioning air con.

There is a Windows 8.1 licence key stored on the BIOS.

You can view the key by using software called Nirsoft ProduKey.

I couldn't get Windows 8.1 to activate at first, I discovered there are multiple versions of Windows 8.1, I got it to work by downloading and installing the Core Single Language ISO - I had first used the regular Core ISO.

I downloaded it here: http://getintopc.com/softwares/operating-systems/windows-8-1-oem-core-single-language-64-bit-download/

Its currently installed, activated and downloading updates and should be able to update to Windows 10 soon.

Great deal, really slim and looks brand new. Thanks OP!

Ok I take on your comments and thanks for that.
This laptop if you spec up a new one on dells website is almost double the price. It's for business not for games so portability is high on the list.
It also has the docking station option which works well I feel on dell laptops.
Ok it's not a fantastic deal but I think it deserved a bit more certainly not worthy of the first comment on this post.

Fanimal, check your home insurance it may be covered on that, I got mine replaced after they found a power surge f,,,,d it up!
If it came with a 1 ( one ) year warranty ? It is now up to you to prove there was a hardware fault when it was delivered ! unlikely after nearly 2 years useage.

Only thing to check is like new cars check some forums out or search for your model and see if you can find information on loads of people having the same fault or issue then you may have a case but still have to prove the fault. IE Toyota throttle peddle fault then recall, Porsche 5 years of charging people for rear oil seal repairs when infact they knew they had a problem from manufacture. Beko washing machines setting on fire after 18 months etc.

Hope that helps you.
So help me out here..my laptop has just packed up after 22 month's of only weekend use and i contacted the company and all i get is only 1 year warranty....should i get 2 years on this and if so where can i send them to understand this as very confusing.
Mine arrived to day also. Not used it yet though.
Duly received today and then fully formatted. All OK, and already used to transfer some 25gb of files for a friend...

Freezing cold! This screen is so awful that it makes eyes sore. I ordered one recently and sent it back immediately as colour was so washed out it made browsing the internet unpleasant. I know the specification is similar to Ultrasharp model (also IPS), but you only get what you pay for.

You just needed to calibrate it.

That as maybe. Sadly I was unable to calibrate it outside the range provided through the settings. Within that range picture didn't even resemble (!) what it was displayed on the monitor next to it.

your just being picky, no one else seems to have had this problem....... and loads sold, look at the feed back

well, they probably need a pc for 15 minutes a month to book a ryanair flight so they don't bother paying 50 quid extra for a better screen. and they of course spread the rumor that using a pc impairs your vision ;-)

Do you Honestly believe what you have posted above !!! ....... suppose it takes all sorts
or you had a faulty panel, none of the reviewers had the problems you had.

to correct the original poster :) its a 8bit+2 frc model (10bit) plus 14-bit programmable LUT on it . So its not a 12bit monitor ..

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2713h.htm

anwyays its still a great monitor but worth spending £500 and getting 3 years warranty on it :D
Not sure if they still have the problems they had at launch. My unit & 3 replacements suffered from backlight bleeding, dust under screen, dead pixels.

Later got a refund & opted for the H model and don't have nearly as many problems. A couple of specs of dust under one corner but I'll get the unit replaced soon when I am free.
£100 more and you can get a new u2713h with 3 year warranty - COLD
at £340 it most likely have been the HM model

I actually got the 128Gb model, arrived next day. Absolutely spot on, much cheaper then directly from Dell!

This is a netbook with a touch screen and no keyboard, while this may be the cheapest around for this model, no netbook should cost more than £249 unless it has a 128gb ssd,

Except it's not a netbook. Mate.

Netbook processor (actually over 10% slower than the first ever atom processor). Of course it is. Love.

No, it's definitely a tablet mate.
Is this better than the iconia w500? The w500 is around the same price but currently has £100 cashback going for it

Well, that is an enterprise opinion, most major companies are probably still on XP ffs, that said, I'll be waiting a long time before upgrading my workstation or my gaming rig to it, but to have full windows capabilities on a tablet with decent processing power and reasonable graphics is going to be a revolution.......imho

3 Month warranty would indicate it's actually a refurb.

UK law requires a minimum of 12 Months on all new products, but that is now technically overridden by the EU law requiring 24Months.

That may be true, but dell monitors come with a 3 year warranty from manufacture date anyway, which should have at least 2 years left (first batch was early 2011), if not more.

Why do people assume anyone using this site has no money ? Some people on here own aston martins, live in £500,000 houses and have computing and hifi equipment worth thousands.

It's about finding the best deals at the best prices, not just deals for the poor.
The pitiful 3 month warranty on a £700 spend is the deal breaker for me.

Hmmm, £750 for a 4MPix display - and you still need a computer to drive it.
How about paying just over half that for a 3MPix display with a "free" ;) tablet computer thrown in, in the form of an iPad3. You could even emulate having a 30-incher by holding it closer to your eyes.

With that comparison, this display is looking somewhat overpriced: I'd give you £200 for it.

No. In my case the monitor was a fraction of the price of the computer driving it. I'd like to see you prepping print work on an iPad. Different tools.

weldone OP, true spirit of HUKD.

If a deal is not what it looks/sounds, better to expire it so others don't fall in trap.... great work.
Looking at Google Shopping: It's only £103.xx (plus potentially shipping) at Scan computers for a retail 3yr warranty unit. Think it's gonna be VERY false economy to buy an OEM unit!

You are right - thanks for your input fellow HKUD's - as a bit of a newbie shall I expire this so people don't get caught in my trap, or just let it go down in flames? :{

I'd be concerned that these are OEM monitors...did you check with dell whether the cashback would be applicable for OEM monitors bought at retail? These monitors aren't meant to be retailed separately.
why is it 3 months warranty only...

Good spot - I might be pulling out of the deal. It was definitely 3 years on this site yesterday .... oO

Get yourself an O2 joggler great for the kitchen

Had a look, but that looks like a basic version of an ipad...need a full computer to do all the online stuff, shopping, banking, email etc plus tv/radio, but just don't want it lying on the worktop and having loads of wires. Thanks for the tip tho, hadn't heard of those.

explains quite well
http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides/lcd-panel-types.php

IPS and TN are two of the main types of LCD screen, VA being the other main one though there are a few others that arent so common. TN is the most common because its cheap and has fast refresh rates. IPS panels are considered the best quality but have slow response times so really arent suited to gaming (hence why i have one of each type because i tried to play the witcher 2 on the ST2220T and it was horrible in places when things started moving rapidly)

ips gives better viewing angles and colour reproduction

i have the Dell ST2220M which uses a TN panel and the Dell in this thread which uses an IPS panel sat side by side - ideally id have the same type of screen but that would be a compromise on quality for either pictures or gaming, so my compromise is the slight oddity of having 2 different screens

The Dell ST2220T (IPS) is MILES better for pictures and standard video (if these were cars then the ST2220T would be a BMW 3 series and the ST2220M would be a Trabant)

The Dell ST2220M (TN) is a little bit better for gaming and fast moving video because it has a fatser response time that the Dell ST2220T, though the trade off is colour reproduction and sharpness

monitor has a speaker too as well as lots of connections

Thank you, that's a really useful link.

I only use it for shopping and other such nonsense so I guess I don't really need the added benefits of IPS, just looking for either a touchscreen monitor or cheap all-in-one pc for the kitchen so we can wall-mount it and ditch the laptop to clear the clutter and wires on the worktop.
