Doesn't have the same hardware overclocking facilities, but what about this board as an alternative?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Z97P-D3-LGA1150-Motherboard-USB3-0/dp/B00K9R1OCW/ref=pd_sim_computers_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=12R9XM54C6E8XW60DGJA

it's the gigabyte entry level z97 board. should be fine. you can't SLi with it though and the second pci slot for crossfire is only at x4. still if you're using an intel k-series chip you can overclock on it.

you can flubit that link or the one at ebuyer for a cheaper price i think too.

people have their opinions about the quality of MSI, Gigabyte and Asrock at that price level though. I've only used Asus so I wouldn't know.

Edited By: plath on Nov 22, 2014 17:18

Not worth it, you're processor will not be compatible with any z97 boards.

Yeah black mark for amazon on this one
A bust. Why do companies sell goods they haven't got? Is their stock control administered by chimps?
I hope someone had their backside well and truly kicked for this.
I've now gone for the Dabs ebay Toshiba deal. Same price. Not USB 3, but supposedly a very good drive. I only want the drives anyway, but it would have been a bonus to get a spare USB3 caddy for future use.

Yep just cancelled. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they really have only just found out. No reason why they would unnecessarily delay saying (well nothing I can think off).

They were sending out cancellation Emails one week ago (see post 48 above). One week on and customers like myself and RockStyle..etc have only just received ours? So why the wait....

Kinda gives you false hope that your order is going to be honored.

Maybe, just maybe, their supplier thought they could source a specific limited number, so all those who ordered late got the first round of cancelations, then the supplier notified Amazon they could supply even less (or none) hence the later round of cancelations. Not wanting to unnecessarily defend Amazon, but it's a possibility.

Has anybody receive one yet? Anybody still not had a cancelation that ordered?

I'm a geek but £34.99 to switch electronics on or off?

Yes, but when you're unable to flick the switch yourself. For example I use it for turning light on when I am not at home so it looks as though someone is in (almost as an anti burglery measure), someone on else uses theirs in their holiday cottage, to turn on electric heater when it's frosty to stop pipes freezing/breaking. I would/will also use it when I am on my jollies to turn lights/radio on again just so people don't know my house is empty.

But you can buy ones that do that for a fiver (the manual 'ring' timer ones). A £34.99 device is ridiculous to just turn something on and off when you want. Things shouldn't be on when your not in anyway because the house might burn down.
Nice exploit! Thanks.

This are ideal for anyone with a coffee machine that needs a hour to warm up, I have one and its very handy to turn my espresso machine on an hour before I get home from work.
£35?

I turn my lights on and off with a £8 digital timer.

If I wanted frost protection, I could just plug in my fan heater which has a built in thermostat.

There are cases where the Wimo is the only option, but I doubt many people have such problems.

Now if the price comes down to £10, then they add Android AND full windows web based accessibility, I could be interested.
Wow seriously cool time to get the credit card out.

(I own a HD PVR and recently bought a HD PVR 2 as well)

Does the HD PVR 2 do 1080p input from the xbox? as the PVR 1 only accepts 1080i or 720p.

Yes it does. But since most games are actually 720p up-scaled to 1080i, it's not worth doing.

Spend the extra and get the V2 with HDMI

Fair enough if you want it to capture gaming footage. The HDFury3 solution to record HDMI signals no longer works in that case though.

If you want to capture gaming footage from a console via HDMI you won't be able to do so. The 360 and PS3 have HDCP and thus video cannot be recorded via HDMI cable. You'll need to use a component cable.

Actually only the PS3 has that, the 360 and WiiU don't have HDCP because they don't play BluRay movies so don't need to conform to that standard, you can get Hauppauge PVR 3 Gaming edition for £18 more from Amazon and that comes with a HDMI input to record gaming footage via HDMI from the 360 and WiiU but for PS3 you have to do it via the analogue componant cable.
graemeakajimmy
As has been said if you want it to capture gaming footage only go for this instead.
HD PVR 2
But I got this to archive Sky recordings in the best achievable quality 1080i

I wouldn't say it's bad for gaming, my old work had over 100 of these things, purely for recording footage from games! Remember 90% of games only run at 720p anyway. :P

Though yes, HDMI one would definitely be better depending on the price difference. You're not going to notice much, if any difference though unless you want 5.1 out from HDMI.

BT Infinity doesn't allow for custom DNS?

The Home Hub 3, like the Sky supplied routers, does not allow you to modify DNS on the router.
Yes, the USB allows the sharing of devices like printers or USB drives. Dual channel means you can use the less busy 5GHz channel if there a lot of wireless devices in your area if your clients support it, as many newer devices do. BT Infinity is supplied with a FTTC modem, which is fine, and a home hub 3, which doesn't allow the modification of DNS (e.g. for unblock-us) and only has 100 Meg Ethernet ports (which is rubbish if you want to transfer massive video files between devices on your network). If you want to replace this, you need a cable router, not an ADSL modem router. For this task, this router does the job rather cost effectively. For me, the choice was between this or the Asus for twenty pounds more. Buying from Amazon means I can return if at all unstable.
Sorry - typo been working on FTP today, meant FTTC modem not FTP!

Typically Infinity is run over fibre optic cable between the exchange and the "green cabinet" in the street somewhere near your home. The copper telephone wires (that used to connect to your adsl modem router) are used for the "last mile" connection between your home and the "green cabinet". That distance is a big factor in what practical speeds you can achieve over that "last mile".

The FTTC modem effectively interfaces between your home hub router (or equivalent) and the last mile copper wire link to the green cabnet. The FTTC modem connects to the copper wires on one side and your home hub (via an ethernet cable) on the other.

Dual band just means that if you want you can run your wireless PC network on a different frequency band to other devices lice DECT digital telephones and wireless TV extenders. This is useful if you find wireless devices are interfering with each other.

The USB ports are typically used to allow devices to be connected for sharing across the network - not sure specifically for this router - but in general you could share a usb printer wirelessly, or sometimes a USB HDD, so the router effectively can be regarding as having a built in print server and/or NAS (Network Attached Storage) interface.

There are some routers that can interface to either adsl or infinity (I have a Billion router that can that), but most are one or the other.

Older tech is only cheaper in order to continue selling product outside the limited geek market, as Joe Bloggs expects prices to drop and wont pay the asking price. It simply proves aggressive pricing can be achieved, but only when they decide they want to drop the price Its a buyers market and if ppl didnt pay the inflated price, then the manufacturers wouldnt get away with it and would have to sell cheaper.
Or you might say that when a product is new, you have to pay for research and development, designers, machine tooling, all the start up stuff. You can spread the cost of all that over the first 100,000 units and then price the item to make a profit. When you make your second 100,000 units, you no longer need to allow for start up costs and thus you can sell it for less and still make the same profit.

Meanwhile, if you are a manufacturer with a future, you will be working on/releasing an updated model, which will have the start up costs and therefore will seem expensive alongside the old model. That's not to say there is never any profiteering, but just that the old stuff being cheaper than the new is just the natural order of things in the product lifecycle.

Why are SSDs 3 gens behind HDD, AND 3x the price? I'll wait until parity with HDDs be4 jumping in. Its pure profiteering on new tech

It's not pure profiteering - and you'll probably find that a company makes much more profit on a 3TB/4TB HDD than they do on an SSD.

Old tech is cheaper to produce.

Older tech is only cheaper in order to continue selling product outside the limited geek market, as Joe Bloggs expects prices to drop and wont pay the asking price. If you use your computer for general office stuff, then yes, an SSD is the best upgrade, but don't put everyone into the same boat.
His clause "If your hard drive is the drag on your system" would seem to clearly exclude people doing 3D modelling, video transcoding or any other cpu intensive tasks.

Sorry guys, when I went to get link from T-mobile site I realised that the price I'd seen earlier this week was an upgrade offer price (£190), not standard for this handset.

Anyway, after suggesting I'd leave as my contract was up, T-mobile offered me the Razr i for free if I stay on my current contract for 2 years (£15.50/month = 300mins, unltd txts, unltd data) which seemed a good deal so I took it.
