IWO JIMA £2.97

Description
On 19 February 1945, along with 60,000 other US Marines, the boys of H Company - many of them barely more than teenagers - stormed the beaches of the remote Pacific island of Iwo Jima. Thus began one of the most critical and costly battles of World War II. Seizing Iwo Jima was vital in the US campaign against the Japanese, but it was a prize that did not come easily.
Through dramatic re-creations and compelling archive footage and first-person accounts from both sides, this intense docu-drama recounts the battle for Iwo Jima and explores both the astonishing valour of the ordinary soldier and the bloody realities of 20th century warfare.

It's a documentary, not a film

On February 19, 1945, the boys of H Company stormed the beaches at Iwo Jima along with 60,000 other Marines.

The company was made up of mostly 18 to 20 year old boys who had been training for this day for over a year. For most of them, Iwo Jima was their first time in combat. They knew little of the island. They had seen mock ups in briefings but nothing could have prepared them for what lay ahead on the black sand beaches of Iwo.

I loved every part of this documentary. Excellent dramatization, the Sherman tanks & the archive footages. It's sad to know that the Americans suffered heavy casualties once again, but I thank them every time I think of it for everything they had done for us. God bless you all!

It seems to get good reviews.
