Supermarket beer (even at full price) is also a good deal then, since it is cheaper than buying it in a pub.

They mean that its cheaper than buying 1 in a pub to get all 4.

You get 7 bottles for the price of 1 in a pub. I doubt supermarkets sell you 7 pints for the price of 1 in a pub!?!?!?!

I saw these last week, but held off getting them because either the expiry date was in under a week or they were already out of date, I cannot remember which!

It's not that far off - which is why brewers / pub owners are constantly complaining to the government about cheap booze in supermarkets. Tescos (for example) sell Carlsberg Lager 24x440ml Cans for £10.98 (£1.04/litre or 59p per pint).

Comparing prices in supermarket and prices in pubs is not like for like, since you get more than just the drink in the pub. Not only do you get the atmosphere of the pub, but you get someone to open it, someone to pour it for you, someone to wash the glass, someone to pay for the heating, someone to provide the furniture you sit on, etc.
