my only reservation is that none of these were filmed in HD, so is this going to be that much better than an upscaled DVD? That said, what is the native resolution of a traditional movie...?

@ra11

That's not quite true that old films are not shot in HD...

here is an interesting discussion on it! goes to show what they were hiding all along and that HD isn't a new thing, it was simply a limitation in the domestic arena:

In response to this offer, i'm sure they'll bring them all out in HD eventually (as this is vol.1), just think of all the money they will make! Then once they have brought them out in volumes they will bring out an ultimate collection with all of them in one box! and who said business wasn't simple? ;)

There's a good reason they've been getting rid of their stock of Bond DVDs for a good while now.

£11-£15 a BluRay disc for a bond film = £250-£400+ for entire 1st 20 bond film HiDef collection.

Now that BluRay has won the format war, prices will be tumbling in time for Christmas when prices will get silly, especially in current markets, but noone will shell out hundreds of pounds for Bond collection in HD, hence the Volumes in affordable bite size chunks :)

tbh - this is exactly what they did with DVD version... :)
