I broke my old pizza stone, so ill check out my local Tescos. Once I realised that these only make a difference if they are really hot from being in the oven for 20 minutes as it heats up, id never go back to a baking tray.

Thanks to the energy giants whose bosses go home with £2m package, baking a stone for 20 minutes is now an extravagance, and on top of that, one has to factor into the standing charge!

i have one of these and make fresh pizza's as well as using it for the occasional frozen one and it cooks pizza the best and leaves the base slightly soft, with mine i had to "cook" it before the first use so just make sure you read the instructions in case you need to do this too

Not available in Warrington, I've checked before.

Pizza stone is also amazing for homemade bread.

Home Bargainds sell pizza stones for £3.99, they don't say Jamie Oliver on them but am sure they work as well.

An hour of gas plus a new pizza stone plus ingredients for four pizza, will still be cheaper than one from Dominoes. Tastier and healthier too. :)

I just cook my pizza in the Halogen Oven. Keeps the base slightly soft and cooks the top to perfection. Best thing I ever bought for the kitchen. Just wish they where a bit bigger.

Hm, the way these stones tend to break you're better off getting a bakestone cast iron thing!

I've broken 2 so far, but I noticed they always break where the buildup of oil is. Since I stopped cutting my pizzas on the stone and transferred them to a plate first I've had no issues.

use an iron griddle (smooth or otherwise) pan .. heat on hob .. when hot put in pizza dough/base and add toppings .. as base is partly cooking .. then into oven . this makes perfect pizzas and way better than any pizza stone.

That's a brilliant idea. I have a griddle pan from M&S, but in order to miinimise waste, I removed the box and everything inside and now I don't even know if the handle is oven proof! I must say you're very resourceful!

I always tend to put some olive oil into a flat frying pan and place the dough which has been rolled out to the pans size and gently fry the base whilst it popping on the sauce and toppings. After a few mins pop the whole pan under the grill. Comes out almost identical to that of Pizza Hut, if that's your thing.
