IMO the Pioneer set for £10 less is the better deal.

I picked this up the other week (down from £199) and have been pleased with the sound so far. I have them tied off a Onkyo TX-NR535 . The bass packs a real punch and several times with some film soundtracks it has felt like there has been someone in the house - happily I am not a horror film fan so this usually isn't a problem.

Aesthetics are good as well, they came well packaged and included sensible lengths of speaker wire as well - so if you want good sound and are not too much of an audiophile then now is a good time to buy!

I have no room on the floor for a sub, is it wrong to have it on top of your units same height as the TV?

will be fine. i've read that it can make the bass clearer and less boomy. sub placement is down to personal preference as you can change the acoustics based on what and where it sits.

There's a couple of considerations:

- Above above, you will lose some of the "bass". Ideally you want the subwoofer in or near a corner to the front-left or front-right of you.
- Make sure the cabinet is sturdy. The sub will be putting a lot of vibration through the unit, which may loosen it up a bit (e.g. you wouldn't want to be putting it on a flimsy IKEA bookcase!)

Currently at £89.99 for open box at Richer Sounds.

I have had a set of these for 2 weeks and they're very good. Just wish we didn't have neighbours so I could really appreciate them!

Can you control the bass output of the subwoofer? To turn off the rumble if watching late night movie?

yes you can. It has a dial on the sub itself, plus a +/- Bass on the remote.
