This is an excellent one for those who work on a building site, or even just for the clumsy!! These were put in a cement mixer full of sand, ran over by some heavy duty machinery, dropped from a height and sprayed with water and still worked (see the video at http://www.jcbphone.co.uk).

So, if you have gone through several phones this year, or lost all of your contacts when your phone got ran over by a digger, then I guess that this is for you!! Play.com have it for just £99.99. Delivery is free!! QuidCo offer 4% cashback - that's £4 on this purchase.

The JCB Tough Phone is as hard as nails and takes no messin from anyone. You can throw bricks at it, drop it in cement, even run over it in a car and it will still ring. It's also very loud with dual speakers so you can have a conversion in a noisy environment. This is a proper JCB, bright yellow and resistant to shock, dust, water and impacts. It doesnt have a camera, you cant browse the web and there are no jingly ringtones - fantastic. This is a phone that fills the niche market for really, really tough phones. Its ideal for the building trade, or for anyone who wants a solid, rugged mobile that gets the job done with no fancy extras.

As I understand things, Vodafone will unblock their contract phones?

As I understand it the Samsung M110 Solid is a better stronger and cheaper tough-phone.
#5
Wasn't this on the Gadget show?

I think so and was soundly beaten by the Samsung.

The samsung solid is a better buy IMO, ive got one tucked in a drawer as I dont use it much (gone back to my d900) but as a tough durable phone its great, its been dropped in a hot bath dropped on concrete (well i had to test it) and still looks brand new and works fine, being in my pocket with the usual blokey stuff ie. coins keys pocket knifes every phone i have had gets minor scratches to the screen this one not a single scuff! and at less than half the price of this one makes it even more desirable.

Why would you want top buy a case for a "tough-phone"?

To protect it?

i just watched the tests in the video .. it's so bogus! ... the drop from "height" was onto a soft muddy ground. Any phone will survive that!!

the cement mixer test is in fine sand (with the odd pebble) will do nothing but scratch the screen of the phone.

The only real 'feature' of this phone is the water resistance. Which is probably good enough to justify paying 99.99 for this phone .... or is it?

ive had one of these for 5 month, on a farm , i can throw it 30 feet to work mate when it rings and if its dropped no probs as of yet, my hands are always wet and muddy, and only this morning i ran over it on a tractor squeezing it into the mud and its still going strong, the no singing no dancing tough phone is oreet . but i did get a free ps3 with mine. 18 month contract job
