Description: JCB TOUGHPHONE Tradesman
The JCB TOUGHPHONE is an incredibly rugged mobile phone which has been designed to work in the most challenging of environments. The TOUGHPHONE makes it one to reckon with - being shock, dust, water and drop resistant as well as operational from -20 degrees C to +60 degrees C. In addition to this, the Tradesman is also the worlds first floating phone so if you drop it by water you won't lose your phone.

Like JCB's machines the JCB TOUGHPHONE has been built to survive the most punishing of environments. Starting with the hardened rubber casing in black, the handset has been awarded an IP67 rating which makes the JCB TOUGHPHONE:
- Shock resistant
- Dust resistant
- Water resistant
- Drop resistant

So confident are JCB in the TOUGHPHONE that it comes with a 1 year, no quibble warranty. The TOUGHPHONE is not only built to last. It is also fully-featured to suit most user demands and includes Bluetooth, Push to Talk, tri-band and built-in dual speakers (so the JCB TOUGHPHONE can be heard in noisy environments).

The JCB TOUGHPHONE is built to a military standard so you can be sure the phone is designed for all purposes and won't let you down when you need it and it comes complete with top specifications such as Bluetooth, built in FM Radio and a torch.

This device is supplied network-unlocked, i.e. you can use this device with a SIM card from any UK or European GSM network (e.g. Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2, etc.). If you would like to purchase a device combined with a network tariff, visit our ‘Contract Phones’ department page (click here).

Has anyone had to make use of their one-year 'no-quibble' warranty? Just wondering what that warranty excludes given the phone is marketed as 'resistant' to numerous things as opposed to fully-proofed against them?

uuuhhh ugly as f@%$!

Read the article on it in the Daily Mail, one tough phone I have to say. Passed all the tests with flying colours
#15
According to official UK site, this model has a 1-year warranty, the other models in the range appear to have a 2-year warranty.
Also note that this model will NOT work with a '3' network sim card.

It's a plan, the only drawback is it's so ugly he'll soon "lose" it.

Because it's tri band (900/1800/1900 GSM) and not 2100UMTS that's needed for 3G....

Sorry..

Because it's a 2G phone.
And 3 only have a 3G network. (Vital piece of the puzzle that.)
#26
So it's not 'slightly unique' then?!

Nice idea though - like the Land Rover one I guess.

That's a lie, they roll onto Orange when they run out of their own signal... but it still won't work, the phone will not accept a USIM (3G SIM) as well as not operating on the correct frequency as I pointed out..

I was walking down the street last week, and got caught up in a in a big long slow queue . When I looked ahead to see what the problem was, it was some guy with a JCB phone

Voted cold for that .... and for the fact that this is what these phones are being sold for in general

I'd personally prefer to go with what JCB themselves say on their official site regarding this phone:

World's First Floating Phone | Waterproof | Dustproof | Certified to IP67 | Military Specification | Bluetooth™ | FM Radio | Colour Screen | Torch | Tri-band | 1 year warranty | GSM compatible (excludes '3' in the UK)

Technically 3 don't have a GSM network, they are using someone else's so that wasn't strictly a lie. And the frequency thing is meaningless if you think 3 having roaming on Orange's GSM network is pertinent. So you can't have your cake and eat it. Either we're both right, or neither of us are: we stand or fall together!

Also, what would happen if you tried to use a 3 phone that had never been switched on before in an area that only has Orange coverage? Would it work, or does the phone need to be handed over from a 3 area first? I know someone I can ask but not at this time!

EDIT: The man, he say, it would work!

Not any more, only 3 signal now

They kept that VERY quiet...

Didn't see any press releases from either 3 or Orange... hmmm

Used to work in a phone shop and we sold the original JCB phone, it was tough and ugly like this which done the job BUT the user interface was horrible. Truly god awful. If you want this, I urge you to go have a shot on it first to see if you deem it usable!

3 uses UMTS, it's 3's insistence on their SIMs being used in 3G devices.

except the test where they put it in a washing machine on hot wash and the phone died.

Damn, wouldn't mind ordering this for my old man. My brother wants one, but he insists on staying with that crappy network "3".
They say they are not in stock until 21st December, tomorrow. Has it been like this since the beginning of this deal, or deid they sell out? I need one for friday or before.
