Next best £7.98.Don't be fooled by its action-ready premise; JCVD isn't quite the latest kickboxing carousal from the Muscles from Brussels. It's something even better: a sad, seriocomic meta-movie that may recall BEING JOHN MALKOVICH or one of Charlie Kaufman's many other ontological curios in the minds of some viewers. But, while both JCVD and MALKOVICH examine the strangeness of celebrity through the lens of absurdist self-referential filmmaking, and both films choose a fascinating, quasi-alienating aesthetic of vibrantly muddy mid-tones, JCVD dresses its dankness in glaringly blown-out lighting effects that acknowledge a topsy-turvy world in which artifice sits just upon reality. It also assumes the opposition of its Kaufman counterpart by being the one to look at fame from within (which is ironic, since it isn't the one that features people entering an actor's head and peeping though his eyes). Buzzily hilarious, JCVD is a personal, deeply felt film. Van Damme's delivery of a Fellini-esque soliloquy about the angst of fame could've resulted in the action star coming across as a cry baby. Instead, the speech, in which he breaks the fourth wall and expresses his ironic frustrations, is revelatory and heartbreaking.

This is a REALLY interesting film! Its totally different from your average Van Damme (or action) movie. There is a real soul to it. JCVD's acting is also shown to be much, much better than the usual movies he was in. He really bares his soul, at one point on the verge of tears. Its a total post-modern, satirical, biographical, action/drama indie curio.

I actually enjoyed watching this, decent action, decent acting, and quite amusing.

I'm serious when I say this, for me, he was up there with Mickey Rourke as best performance of the year. I am not even kidding!

It wasn't bad. I think I was expecting something quite different (some people were describing it as very surreal, which it really inst).

But while it wasn't bad, it didn't set my world on fire either. It WAS a surprisingly good performance from Van-Damme tho. If only Seagal could land a role like this........

His best film without a doubt, and although that isn't saying much considering his previous work  i really enjoyed this film. Wether you like this film or not it certainly proves the man can act and not just splits kick :p

That scene truely made the movie. Although, it seems as if it were genuine and he was not acting it?? Great Movie anyway :)

definantly worth watching at this price.
