Synopsis
Don't be fooled by its action-ready premise; JCVD isn't quite the latest kickboxing carousal from the Muscles from Brussels. It's something even better: a sad, seriocomic meta-movie that may recall BEING JOHN MALKOVICH or one of Charlie Kaufman's many other ontological curios in the minds of some viewers. But, while both JCVD and MALKOVICH examine the strangeness of celebrity through the lens of absurdist self-referential filmmaking, and both films choose a fascinating, quasi-alienating aesthetic of vibrantly muddy mid-tones, JCVD dresses its dankness in glaringly blown-out lighting effects that acknowledge a topsy-turvy world in which artifice sits just upon reality. It also assumes the opposition of its Kaufman counterpart by being the one to look at fame from within (which is ironic, since it isn't the one that features people entering an actor's head and peeping though his eyes). Buzzily hilarious, JCVD is a personal, deeply felt film. Van Damme's delivery of a Fellini-esque soliloquy about the angst of fame could've resulted in the action star coming across as a cry baby. Instead, the speech, in which he breaks the fourth wall and expresses his ironic frustrations, is revelatory and heartbreaking.

...and a film where he teaches somebody else to kick ass (or face) for a change.

Very watchable popcorn-fodder movies & a large fan following in his hey day, and I fancy watching this movie too; but not at silly money.

Hopefully the release will nose-dive (unfortunately like Mr Van Varenberg's movie career did beyond the mid-1990s) soon.

Heat added for this price, as it is the cheapest at present.

Seen clips of this and it looks quite decent.

Been a JCVD fan since his first film. I think he needs to do more comedy type movies these days as he is getting a bit long in the tooth, lol.

Gonna buy this on blu-ray though, just waiting for a price drop.

Jackie Chan & Jet Li are still making martial arts movies.

Beside which, Van Damme & ex-Karate champ, Dolph Lundgren, are bringing back a semi-retired franchise this year...

"Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation"

-5 degrees already... another case of people voting on the product rather than the price.

saw this in europe last year and the majority is in french langauge.
Not a very good film just van damme basicly crying about his decline(not getting certain roles over segal!!)
The story is very weak and would be more suited to the stage(!!)
Not in a million years worth getting in blu-ray(not shot in hi-def), even normal dvd unless you are a major fan of his and very cheap!!

Think you'll find all movies since about 1930 have been filmed in a resolution far higher than "hi-Def":whistling:

JCvD fan here too, Timecop is one of my fave films by him (took time to track down the HDDVD), DLed the DVDrip of JCVD a few weeks ago but still not watched it yet (not too keen in the French only audio), wanting to buy the BD but will wait till the price drops below £10.
