Forget the Xfactor. This is it.

Here's what they say about Jeff Buckley: "He died too young". Here's why they say it: Grace is simply one of the most amazing things you can do with your ears and a little digitally-encoded disc. He inherited the voice of his father, the legendary Tim Buckley--seven octaves, each of them only just enough to cram his big feverish dreams into--but his music was all his own. Think Van Morrison's Astral Weeks on drugs--but then drugs could give some kind of comfort, and there's no comfort in Grace ; just constant flux between crippling despair and an almost violent joy

The greatest male singer of modern times in my humble opinion, a sad and untimely death.

I like Jeff Buckley as much as the next guy, but...

but his music was all his own

Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is (far too frequently) wrongly attributed to Buckley. Cohen is by far the superior song writer.
#7
Cohen might have written it but he didn't sing it like Buckley. Every now and then there is a cover that tops the original and I'd say Jeff's Hallelujah is one of 'em.
#8
Its so often wrongly attributed to him because he made it the definitive version.
[mod]#9
Cohens song, but Buckley owns it. Does that make sense?
#10
I guess I take substance over style :P

OK, it's a good cover...

I wasn't impressed the first time I listened to this album, but came back to it a few months after I bought it and it quickly became one of my favourite albums of all time.

Mojo Pin & Lover, you should've come over are brilliant, but the whole album is full of classics - his superior cover of Hallelujah being one of them. IMO no-one will ever come close to the brilliance of Jeff Buckley's cover. It's truly spine-tingling. His vocal range is amazing - such a tragedy he died so soon after making this album.

This "expanded edition" is worth buying over the original for the extra track - "Forget Her", which is great too.

For anyone that likes this it's worth doing a search for sketches for my sweetheart the drunk , worth buying if only for satisfied mind.
#13
Lover, you should've come over... oh that song makes me tingle.

Hi Guys, support Buckley's version to get to no.1 this week in the official charts to knock the xfactor cover off the fixed no.1 spot.

Remind the world that a 'hit' comes from music with heart, not who has the most money backing it (souless Simon Cowell)

there is a facebook group supporting this called 'Jeff Buckley christmas no1' thats already got picked up by the radio and the sun newspaper.

The idea is on monday the 15th, everyone needs to download ' Hallelujah' by Jeff Buckley on Itunes for 78p to go up against the xfactor cover. So if you think the original cover should get some play this xmas, join the group and download this monday (not before). woo!

fantastic album from a great artist. it's a shame that it has to take something like the x factor to bring his talent to be recognised by the general public, but if them releasing that song makes more people aware of him, then all the better

it would be fantastic if he could get a final tribute by his version of hallelujah getting the xmas number one, but i think the zombie sales buying frenzy of xfactor fans would get anything to number one if it was the winners song

for those who don't know him, it's because he was a geniune talent instead of a manufactured singer and dancer with mtv music videos, and he died an early age in a swimming accident. grace was his first and only studio album, although there are some other since released studio and live recordings and some fantastic bootlegs, including some amazing grace sessions with alternate versions of songs like hallelujah

If he hadn't died after making this album there's no doubt you'd have heard of him. You've obviously led a very sheltered musical life (I'm guessing you're a Chris Rea fan?) - Jeff Buckley is widely considered to be one of the most influential artists of all time.

From Wikipedia - "Grace won appreciation from a host of revered musicians, including members of Buckley's biggest influence, Led Zeppelin. Jimmy Page considered Grace close to being his "favorite album of the decade". Robert Plant was also complimentary. Others who had influenced Buckley's music lauded him: Bob Dylan named Buckley "one of the great songwriters of this decade", and, in an interview with Village Voice, David Bowie named Grace as one of the ten albums he would take with him to a desert island. The album eventually went on to feature in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2003, appearing at #303.

Can't really say more than that, but if you wanna stick to your Chris De Burgh albums that's fine with me

Widely considered to be one of the most influential artists of all time? He's a fantastic vocalist, but that's hyperbole of the highest order. His one studio album is great, but there are #302 albums that are better according to the Rolling Stone list you just quoted.

Would be we nice if we didn't see an X Factor christmas number 1 this year, but to be perfectly honest it's more fool us for not accepting the obvious: People are stupid.

Edit: Just reading the wikipedia entry and saw this:
Buckley spent the next six years working in a hotel and playing guitar in various struggling bands, spanning a diverse range of styles from jazz, reggae, and roots rock to heavy metal.[29] He toured with the dancehall reggae artist Shinehead[30] and also played the occasional funk and R&B studio session, collaborating with fledgling producer, Michael J. Clouse to form X-Factor Productions.[31]

Just did a quick Google on X-Factor Productions.

Resin models anyone? Graphics and photography? Not all X-Factor Productions are the same.:)
