There are a few dvds out there - War of the Worlds - but this one is the best imo :)
In 1978 Jeff Wayne composed and produced one of the most groundbreaking and best-selling musical works of all time. In 2006, after much anticipation, Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds was brought to the stage for the first time, playing to sold-out arenas across the UK.

The War of The Worlds - Live is a spectacular mix of live music, theatre, multi-media and visual arts on a grand scale. It combines the brilliance of the original performers including Jeff Wayne, Justin Hayward, Chris Thompson and even the late Richard Burton (In Sight and Sound) along with a brand new cast, the 10-piece Black Smoke Band, the 48-piece ULLAdubULLA Strings and an unforgettable fully operating 30ft Martian Fighting Machine!

This is a good deal but I think this one might be better.

Looks like it's the same DVD set but comes with the HG Wells book as well for a quid cheaper!

Off topic, but did anyone see this live at the weekend at the O2 (or elsewhere this month)?

I did, on Saturday, and was disappointed there was no longer the 3D Richard Burton head :( Only a projection on a hanging plastic screen :(

Hah, I saw this on Friday at the NIA, it was the best thing I've ever seen live! Can't recommend it highly enough.

Hopefully this DVD is from a different showing though; the sound cut out in the middle of one song which kind of ruined the mood for a bit!

Both the same DVD i think (from 2006) - the 30th Anniversary version is just repackaged and includes the novel

I seen this a few years ago in Belfast - amazing show!

Saw it at the O2 Saturday, as it was our first time we didn't miss the 3D Burton head! Was gobsmacked at the entire show, fighting machine was especially stunning. Thought the guy who stood in for David Essex as the Artilleryman was excellent. Also managed to find a pub within walking distance of the Dome which didn't want to charge us over inflated prices for food and drink like they do in the O2 arena.

If you go to the war of the worlds website you can order the DVD of the show you were at ,
doubt very much that the sound cutting out will make it onto the DVD

Where's the head gone?

We saw it in Manchester on the 13th - Absolutely amazing !

Even the Richard Burton projection, the way it interacted with the actors was amazing.

That's the one I should have been at... Last minute hitch... Not best chuffed! :x

Possibly the best album in the world AND best book. Drop "possibly" from that statement!

Exactly, I wish I knew :-D

I just felt it was a pity they have reduced the impact/effects over the years instead of improving them.

They did have the floating ghost, which I think was new though.

The show was otherwise good, but the acoustics of the O2 are definitely all wrong for this kind of thing. It was very echoey in there.
