In Septembers 'Photography Monthly magazine' there is a voucher within a full page advertisment which you can take into any store and Jessops will price match and camera or lens in the magazine (Including warehouse express!!!!).

This only applies to cameras and lenses.

I have just purchased a £850 lens (Jessops instore price) for £699 (warehouse express price) using this voucher.

In store only and the magazine is out now.

So why give Jessops your money when you can get cheaper elsewhere in the first place ?

Thats exactly what I was thinking!!!
Unless they beat the price why bother with them !!

For 2 reasons in my opinion:

1) Jessops is only minutes of driving from my house, I'd much rather buy it from a retailer even if it costs a little extra.

2) Return a faulty product or if something goes wrong, dealing with it in person just makes it a lot easier.

I'd usually agree, however Jessops are in a bad way financially and are already closing stores so don't be too suprised if the store or even the company aren't there when a problem comes up!

The warranty is with the manufacturer, not Jessops.

Not strictly true, the retailer has responsibility for the item under the sale of goods act, alot of manufactures insist you go through the retailer where you bought the item.

The warranty is still ultimately with the manufacturer - the offer is for camera bodies and lenses not Jessops specific items so while it may be more convenient to go through the retailer it's still the manufacturer's responsibility. I have used Jessops for warranty repairs and done so directly through the manufacturer and to be honest I prefer the latter, Jessops were extremely slow in getting warranty repairs done.

I think these price match things just make the company lazy in the first place, why cant they just be cheap? :P
#12
Because they can't afford to be cheap - they're banking on only a few people to use this offer with the narrow profit margin being justified as they wouldn't have had that sale anyway, it would have gone to the online company. In most cases people will continue to walk in off the street and buy their cameras and accessories at normal prices (or at least in theory)

Not really it depends on where you bought the item, places like Currys often buy items cheaper as they provide there own repairs through there own company Mastercare, i understand Argos also do this on alot of items.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is Jessops we're talking about?

It doesn't matter where Argos or Currys have their items are fixed your warranty is with the manufacturer - if you buy an item from either of these two companies you do not get a different warranty stating that you have no support from the manufacturer and it can only be done through Argos/Currys.

My Fuji S5600 died on a very wet RIB boat trip :whistling: so I was looking for a new camera before we go on holiday next week.

Went to Jessops Bluewater today to look at the Canon Powershot G7. They retail for £399 here and with the price match voucher they have to match Warehouse Express' price of £299. A few other places on the net are cheaper but only with next day delivery for £8-12 which reduces the savings v. in-your-hands-right-now-aspect.

The manager was talking to his sales staff about the "problem we have of this voucher that lasts until the end of the month." He said this in a manner that was dismissive/derogatory of anyone bargain seeking. I was one of their problems standing there with a a copy of the Photography Monthly magazine! He also said about checking prices and stock and possibly adding delivery charges to the cost. Seems a little too much of moving the goalposts. I also possibly overheard them talking about moving stock.

As I couldn't be sure of the deal, being a "problem" to them rather than a customer, I bought off Amazon instead with next day delivery. :p
