Good price for this 2 DVD set.

This is the 270 minute version of the 6 part TV series which originally ran for over 6 hours.

Maintaining the perfect balance between religious fervour and dramatic realism. Jesus of Nazareth is a unique film depicting the life of Jesus Christ from birth through to resurrection. Franco Zeffirelli s production is acclaimed exceptional for its thoroughly biblical and historical research written in consultation with Anglican, Catholic and Jewish religious authorities. This comprehensive and faithful film features a distinguished international cast and superb locations. Starring Robert Powell, Olivia Hussey, Laurence Olivier, James Mason, Anthony Quinn and many others.

Please note that there is another Special Edition version of this DVD which is much closer in length to the TV series but apparently still has a few cuts.

The best price I could see for the Special Edition is £16.97

Great price! Can't stand the film myself because it fails to present the life of Christ correctly, but then most historical films do not keep to the truth!

When you say most "historical films don't keep to the truth" what do you believe to be representative of the truth that they should follow? The Bible presumably?

Oh come on now! The film is supposed to be based on the Bible, therefore, yes, I'd expect it to stay true to the text.:whistling:

no one is asking anyone to believe and there was no critism of anyone discussing the film itself but to ridicule religion with no justification is unfair.

We can all have our own opinions but this i dont believe is the forum for this and all i was saying is please repect other peoples gods. Also, if atheists are so offended by this DVD why join the forum ?

I've removed a lot of the posts from this thread. I myself found some offensive so i'm sure others have also. Apart from that, this is not the place to discuss such issues.

We all like a good story, no matter how far fetched. I'd watch this film the same way i'd watch a film about the Roswell incident...with an open mind and a large helping of scepticism.

We also, rather hypocritically (for atheists) enjoy receiving christmas presents and choccie easter eggs and are prepared to thank christ to that extent. I'm sure he'd understand. :-D

This is quite simply £3.99 for a film/cut down mini-series that has received high praise by critics over the years.
It is not a documentary, nor does it claim to be & maybe the discussions should be left at that as I find it very unlikely that anyone's position will be changed by arguing over varying beliefs.

For anyone actually interested in the film itself.....

Newsweek writer Harry F. Waters remarked that:
"Rarely have the humanity and divinity of Christ been evoked with as much passion, sensitivity, and ecumenical deference as Zeffirelli has brought to the story."

Rev. Patrick Sullivan of the U.S. Catholic Conference ("New Look at Jesus," April 4, 1977) was quoted as saying:
"Zeffirelli has succeeded admirably in making Christ's story understandable to a modern secular audience".

Is this the only difference between the 2 versions? Sub £4 is fantastic but if the extra bits are any good may well go for the more expensive version. I got the impression that this (£3.99) version is cut down from what was on the telly... Or am I - once again - totally wrong?!?

Can't belive it's 30 years old. Could have been made last week in my opinion... Fabulous film/mini seies or whatever you'd prefer to call it!
