$55 per barrel it should be 80p

$55 per barrel is, if my maths is right, 22.61p/litre. Add the excise duty of 57.95p/litre and VAT on top of both = 96.67p/litre.

Even if they refined it, delivered it and sold it for free the government would still want 69.54p/litre in duty and VAT.

This was a receipt I found the other day, back in 2009 it was 82.9 p/l. 15% VAT also.

£105.9 at my local Spar filling station, they are also runing 6p off per litre with a £15 shopping spend. So was able to fill up yesterday at under £1 a litre for the first time in years

How much in France? 80p?

When I started driving in '89 it was 40p a litre which is about £1.80 per gallon. The 79/80 date sounds bang on for a £1 gallon.

There are rumours around the traps that crude oil might drop to $20.00 a barrel.

It was £1.00 a gallon when I passed my driving test in 1980 as I always remember my pals all chipped in money so we could get a pound in order to put a gallon into my Ford Capri.

Well WaftyCranker's original question was "Can anyone recall when it was less than 1 pound a gallon ?" before it was edited to litres.

But this price will probably only be for today. This is the crazy place that lowers it's price on random days of the week, a crazy system imho!

Chill out. I think everyone here knows how to use Google.I use it all the time but it gets bit boring after a while .It's nice to have a human response now and again and share experiences with bit of humorous banter thrown in. It would be a sad and boring world if everything we did was based on cold logic

Awwww, those were the days. I miss seeing those Ford Capri's. What colour was it? Did you have a furry dice hanging from the mirror? X)

Yeah but in Venezuela you can do the grand slam- catch a sailfish, a swordfish and a white marlin all in one day. It doesn't get much better than that( according to Robson Green)

I used to work in a petrol station when I was younger an I remember it went over the 50p a litre mark in 1996, so not *that* long ago... certainly in my long lifetime :-(

I can remember when it was 4/6 - that's four shillings and sixpence - a gallon, but then again if you earned £20 a week you were doing well so it's all relative. Nice to see it going this low though - where is Galston for my info?
