My friend got a pair of Philips noise cancelling earphones and all they seemed to do was increase the volume when someone spoke. Not exactly active noice cancelling. Wonder how these will work?

These are noise isolating all that means is they block your ear canal, like earplugs with a speaker built in.

What he said. These form a seal in your ear so little or no other sound can penetrate from the outside. Can make your ear get a little bit wax crazy though :w00t:

Mine arrived in post this morning. As basic headphones they sound great - way better than the standard Ipod earphones. That said, as far as the noise isolating goes, they are pretty poor. I have the Shure E2c's as my main noise isolating 'phones and they really form a tight seal inside the ear canal, unlike these Jivo ones, which just sit deeper in the ear so you wont need to the volume up so much.

For a fiver, you cant knock 'em - just don't have great expetations.

I bought some and arrived the other day, cant say they cut much noise out, but they have a good range of sound and worth the £4.99 and quidco money :)
