Pur health offers its members free membership to JJB Gyms.

The cheapest quote i managed to get from pru health is for £19.27 per month.

If you go through quidco they give you £115 back for joining pru health (£85 from october 1st)

This averages out as £9.68 per month and you get health cover and gym membership compared to £35 for a standard membership at JJB Gym

That's the only free one in my area. All the others you have to pay at least £15 a month

Hey, How did you get a quote for £19.27 ? Cheapest I can get is 29.18
#15
good deal, but again read the small print, you will pay more the first 3 months until they know you go 3 times a week

was a better deal last month when you got all the posted above plus a free mountain bike
#16
Its picking up 2 JJB's near me for free. Can I use both it says I have to choose my preffered. Love to be able to use both gyms cos one is near my parents home.

EDIT: £25 a month for me, or £15 a month after quidco. Tempted if I can use both gyms.

Answered my own question. Can only use one JJB. Not so good for me.

23 for me with JJB in newcastle. Im only 23 so I dont know what the prices are calculated on!
Could do with going to the gym but i'm too lazy lol!
#19
But, but, when I fill in the quote It doesn't ask me for any gym or anything. Am I being stupid here ?

I selected the gym before and it said £0 and (Simply pay a one-off activation fee of £25 and a subsidised fee for the first 3 months)

Then selected the get quote but I don't think it's taking into account the GYM I was playing with earlier on ?
#20
Just tried this is as my missus pays £25 through her work. even though we have a JJB just around the corner and one about 5 miles away, the only JJB its picking up is 25 miles away in wigan, strange.

https://www.pruhealth.co.uk/medical_insurance/vitality/partners/exercise/gym_pricing.jhtml

No mention of JJB Gyms in there.

Going For Cannons or LA would be: £25 + (£25 X 3) + potentially £0 for the remaining 9 months.

There's not one gym on the list in Sheffield it seems :-(
#23
I am not sure how people are getting JJB coming up for them as participating gyms. As mentioned above JJB is not mentioned in the blurb. There are 2 JJBs within 5 miles of me and neither are coming up.

the JJB's are coming up as other gyms. seems not all gyms are participating hence the reason why not all are showing inc the virgin gym in sheffield

but but i got that from the site by using a sheffield post code and changing to 10 miles:p

although i just did it again with the gyms postcode and there isnt one for 25 miles lol
if i use my post code and 100 miles sheffield comes up 57 miles away
#27
definitely not JJB on that Pru link.

Boots are offering their own health insurance, which is underwritten by pru with all the same benefits, no quidco but at the minute it's half price so works out about the same and there'd be no need to wait around for the quidco cashback. Some people have reported (on MSE), getting lower quotes from boots for exactly the same product.

Oh, and JJB IS an affiliate gym, it's just that only about 25 in the country are linked to pru. So you may find that yours isn't....

Hey, How did you get a quote for £19.27 ? Cheapest I can get is 29.18

hi, read my post above - it IS available at SOME JJB gyms!
#30
one thing the OP HAS missed is the fact that (at JJB anyway), there is a one off £25 joining fee, then for the first three months they charge you £25 per month ON TOP of the pru membership, while they work out how often you go. THEN, if you go twice or more on average per week, it becomes free.....

So basically, take your quote from pru, times it by twelve, then add £100 before dividing back into twelve to give you your real figure (provising you go twice or more per week)...

This would raise the OP's monthly cost to around £18 per month - which still isn't bad for health insurance and gym membership...
#31
I was wanting to join a gym but let me get this right...

I got a quote for £29.36 a month so thats £352.32 a year

minus £115 cashback = £237.32 so thats £19.78 a month after cashback

Then I have to add £25 activation fee and £15 a month for the first 3 months

Then, if i've got this right as long as I go 3 times a week I don't pay any thing thereafter.

Is this right?

So after adding on the fees etc its £307.32 for the year

and £25.61 a month
#32
Its twice or more a week, dunno where people have got 3 times a week from.

the boots deal works out better for me £10 cheaper per month (obviously the higher the quote the bigger discount mine was originally £35) plus 1000 points and a few extra benefits going through boots like a free eye test
#34
Cheapest I can get is £27.11 a month, I'm only 28 non smoker and fit as a butchers dog. As has been aksed 3 times (at least) in this thread now, how do you get a quote fot Sub £20???
#35
Im 21, exercise 3+ hrs per week and get it (core package) for £20.56 pm. And thats with no excess, now if only there was one of those gyms close...
#36
Works out about £5 cheaper for me through boots

Does anyone know how long the gym memberships last for virgin active?

Don't want to sign up if i'm stuck on a yearly membership. Then if I can't make it to the gym the cost goes up.

Also, if I move house can I change gym.

If anyone knows please help

Cheers:thumbsup:

nevermind i found it, 12 months:x

twice a week?

Do they fine you massive amounts if you go on holiday or can't be ar5ed once or twice?
#39
well i just posted this as my friends joined the last time this offer was on but they didn't have to go a certain number of times a week back then. i haven't read the small print and some people are saying there are some catches so check it out throughly first.

and i am getting it under £20 with a £0 excess on the cheapest package option, as a 18 year old, who doesn't smoke, and exorcises regularly. but there maybe something to do with where you live, i am not too sure though

twice a week?

Do they fine you massive amounts if you go on holiday or can't be ar5ed once or twice?

They work it out over a period of 3 months, so all you need to make sure of is that during each quarter, you go in and out of the gym approx 26 times. If you go on holiday for 2 weeks, you just have to make sure you make up for it when you get back. You don't actually have to do anything in the gym -you just have to swipe in and out (max once per day).

So at the end of the first quarter they add up the number of times you have swiped in over the past 3 months. This number then determines the rate you pay for the following 3 months, and so on. If it is above 26 you get the preferential rate, which for some gyms is £0, or if you it is between 13 and 25 times, you pay the middle rate.
