On the JML direct website these are:

Were £14.99

Now £5.99
Delivery £1.95
Grand Total £7.94

So a very good deal. Pity I live about two hundred miles from the nearest Boyes!!

I've had one of these.. they are at best useless.. at worst dangerous.

The way they work is by having a conductive split tip, when you touch the tip on something condictive (the item to be soldered) a current flows between the tip sections, and it heats up quickly.

Sounds good.. but the problems are many..

1. The tip is HUGE!

2. The tips damage very easily..

3. they spark all over the place..

4. a high voltage through the component can be very very damaging, and if you connect the wrong two points with this you WILL destroy a circuit.

I binned mine as it was honestly useless.. for this price it may be worth it to see if it works for you.. but for real electronic work these are useless.

Thanks to the posters pointing out its limitations.
Amazing how hot the post has got though!

Oh the irony - there's a joke there somewhere :)

Don't buy one of these. I bought one a couple of years ago, thought it would be useful for occasional use where couldn't get soldering iron to, etc and I don;t think I have actually got the thing to work once.

Waste of money.

The letters JML were a dead giveaway that this would be a piece of ****!

Methos.

Its not actually made by JML they are just the UK distributor..

It's made by a US company ( I bought mine in the US ) however.. as stated they are **** anyways :)

In my experience JML stuff sucks. They make out that everyone of their products is some sort of wonder-product.........when it reality it usually sucks root. :stocking:

This isn't the proper cold heat guns. The expensive ones kind of heat by vibration and are for the pros.
