If voting cold, please tell me why.
If they can be had cheaper elsewhere let me know, as i'll buy one if I can get a great price :)

Doesn't matter how cheap these are. I wouldn't trust it with my £500 DSLR and another few hundred pounds worth of glass. Not voted as I'd never buy one.

It's true, these things are pants at supporting the weight of a decent SLR with a heavy lense attached.

The Joby Gorillapod Focus GP8 at about £100, is the one that seems to be model for the DSLR user.

I got one from dealextreme, not a gorillapod but a copy. Very surprised how sturdy it is. Put a hama ball joint head on for more flexibility. Tripod cost me $12 delivered. canon eos 500d with 55-250mm zoom steady as a rock :-)

As much as I would like one these for the holidays or odd outings where it would be useful, they are very over priced. Not voted either way as it is a hot deal by site standards but for that price I could have a proper cheaper tripod which would be more flexible for the use that most enthusiast DSLR owners would have their camera for.
