Whatever your taste in music. This dude rocks.

And bizzarely the same CD is available elsewhere on the same website for £11.99!??!?!?!

John Lee Hooker is undoubtedly one of the greatest blues artists of the 20th Century. His recording career spanned over half a century from his debut release in 1948 right up to his death at the age of 83 in 2001. He has influenced generations of musicians from all backgrounds including the Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, George Thorogood and Jimi Hendrix. Jack O? Diamonds is an album recorded in 1949 but never released at the time due to contractual problems. It has sat in the vaults ever since and is now available to hear for the first time. It was recorded at a private gathering in Detroit. The recordings have been cleaned and remastered by John Astley to an exceptional standard and are now presented on CD.

voted hot even though I don't know these songs (except Catfish Blues but that was from a version done by Rory Galagher's band Taste).

There's a review here and if you click on the 'speaker' icon you can hear a sample of the songs. Maybe it's not the best record for those new to JLH "...this disc is well worth picking up for Hooker fanatics. "

For £1 more "Legend: The Best Of John Lee Hooker" might be a better choice having many of the better known songs such as "Boom Boom" which many will know from an advert a few years ago.

It's the same price on Amazon but you have to pay P&P. There's one user review on there which concludes "Over the years I've managed to work my way through quite a number of John Lee Hooker compilations and I have to say, this is by far the best. Okay, it doesn't have 'One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer' (for some reason every best of either has that or 'Boom Boom' but neither together!) but it does have the best versions of 'Boom Boom', 'Boogie Chillen', 'Crawling Kingsnake' and 'This is Hip'. That in my book makes it worth the four quid alone. However, there are also a few lesser known gems here. 'Blues Before Sunrise' is a good example of this as is 'Nightmares'. Therefore if you only buy one JLH record then make it this one."
