I found out about this TV while speaking to an LG rep in Curries (of all places). I haven't seen this TV but I phoned up John Lewis and apparently it has a 2.5cm crack at the back of the TV but not affecting the screen. It's actually a customer return rather than display model.

I badly want this TV but I am just not sure about spending that amount of money on a TV. But this sounds like an absolute steal. Apparently there is a 65" version as well.

So... there's one slightly damaged, display model available at an undisclosed location?
Marvellous, truly marvellous

I actually filled in the location details but they don't show on the deal so I have updated the title.

Why would you pay so much money for a TV that isn't even new or boxed?

The crack is obviously an issue (I "might" have bought it otherwise) but the LG rep told me that you should be able to order the glasses from LG for free. Failing that you can use an old pair of Real3D glasses. They supposedly do work.

Yes, why would anyone ever buy anything in such condition with a discount of nearly £1000.

This deal reminds me of a special offer I saw this morning at my local car dealership. It was for a yellow 1974 Ford Capri. With a bright red bonnet. And no wheels. And it recently appeared in a Crimewatch video of a drive-by shooting. Mmmmm, I'm not sure.

His full name is Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone. Totally irrelevant I know but then so are the above quoted posts :p

Not true. I got display model last year and LG said your shop should provide you one

Agreed but this is a customer return and it does partly explain the exceptional price.

My uncle has this TV and if i had it i would not be happy knowing there is a 2cm+ crack on a screen (Front or Back) that is so thin or anywhere for that matter. for the money I would just consider buying the model below.

True but the crack is not on the screen.

The glasses are the glasses you get from the cinema. I'd say the ones from LG are 10% better PQ and a good 30% lighter. Its worth paying the money as the 3D, (or even the fake 2D>3D conversion in cinema mode,) is the dogs. As long as the front screen is perfect and you get 5 year warranty, I don't see how this isn't a hot deal. The glasses cost next to nothing.

All great until you try and claim on the warranty 3 years on and they say whatever the issue is not under warranty as the area that was cracked caused the issue...

This should be in the ask section

My Dad just went to look at this but walked away as it's pretty mash up.
#23
Yep it is in pretty bad nick if its the same one i went there to try to repair a couple of weeks ago. How they could accept a customer return back in that condition is beyond me.

cracked across one corner apparently, all the way from edge to edge.

Sounds very bad. But out of curiosity when you say from "edge to edge"? I only ask because they said the crack is about 2cm long. Admittedly it would explain the amazing price, but it just doesn't sound like John Lewis to do that.
Thanks.

Ok I just asked my dad and I quote:

Yeah. Thanks for the tip but it didn't look very safe. The crack was only about nine inches across the top left corner of the support glass at the rear of the screen. But I didn't think it was worth the gamble. Annoying, they wouldn't send me a picture or tell me over the phone where the damage was.

I guess they want it sold so not being very helpful remotely. Very unlike JL as you say.

Thanks for the reply. I hope to get up there to see it myself but in the mean time I am ending this thread although at -316 degrees and counting it's pretty much dead already LoL.

Apparently their 5 year guarantee won't include the screen!

"Apparently there is a 65" version as well."

Is that also cracked? And what was the price on the 65"?

Might have been a return due to the crack. Having followed the threads on AVForums, some peoples boxes have turned up in pretty poor condition. Although I think those were all from Currys.
