People who've seen it in action are genuinely surprised at the quality and volume of sound it can produce.

However, you may be able to push the music to it from the actual computer if it has bluetooth.
If you can stream from your NAS to a smartphone or tablet that has bluetooth, then you should be able to push that audio to the speaker.

I think it's being replaced by an 'Ultimate Ears' edition which is certainly stylistically different and seems to have less functionality. Can't speak for the sound quality of the new unit but the list price is higher and I would be tempted to grab this model whilst it's still available and at a good price.
