Well I am on a roll now!

Argos do not have the LG 58UH635V in stock at £669.00.

Feeling deflated I perused other stockists and came across a pop-up on the John Lewis site stating that they were going to price match anything that they stock against other retailers TODAY only!

I was dubious but telephoned and to my surprise, they price matched without discussion.

I also got 5 year guarantee plus free delivery as standard (chose to collect due to potential BF delivery delays).

Check it out now!

Dont john lewis always do these price matches as long as you provide them with were it is cheaper?

I'm not being rude but genuinely asking - how is this different from what they usually do? Thanks!

Are you saying that, for today only, John Lewis are actually going to honour their "Never Knowingly Undersold" promise, by reducing their prices for all when alerted of a cheaper competitor price?

I think the difference is online price matching. Before the would only match in store prices.

John Lewis normally will not price match items that carry their extended warranty as the item is not then considered 'like for like'. They don't normally match TV prices unless their competitor is also offering a 5 year guarantee included in the price.

Hi

If you check their small print or contact customer service, John Lewis usually only match to in-store retailers. I have tried in past and they were quite clear that they only price-match under certain conditions. This is definitely NOT their usual policy.

If you have a different experience then no probs but this is a first for me with John Lewis.

90% of my requests are refused. They make false claims that there is not a show room or retail outlet, when there is.
They know they are undersold and make false claims.

I just rang and asked if they would price match a phone on the giffgaff website, and they wouldnt do it.
#11
They only price match against another retailer that has a physical store within X mile radius (50 I think) of a JL store. In my experience they generally reject on first attempt until you prove the other retailer has a store and has stock.....by this time the price has usually gone up and you miss out! That's their usual policy so matching on line prices today is a big step, shame they wont do the same tomorrow!

@PollyWollyWow - could you link to the pop-up please or tell us exactly what it says? I can't find it, and I know from practical experience how difficult it is to get John Lewis to stick by their stated policy on Never Knowingly Undersold.

And even if you do get them to match a price, because it fits their criteria, they rarely ever lower the price they charge to other customers - they just drop it for the person claiming.

They make a huge fuss about 'Today we're matching a competitor's promotion' from time to time, but it's only ever the big companies like Debenhams or House of Fraser where, frankly, they're not going to lose much, if anything. If it's a smaller company, they keep very quiet indeed - even when it meets this definition:

Our high street competitors trade on the same basis as us. They have premises on a high street or comparable shopping destination, which are freely open to the public on the UK mainland. They stock a reasonable range of goods for customers to buy and take away, with clearly displayed prices. Their websites trade under the same brand and on the same basis as their high street shops.

I don't think that's true, unless they have recently changed it. This has not been my experience.

I don't think that's true I have had two TVs price matched and the warranty is not taken into consideration

Can we take down this post, it's obviously not true?

Likewise - they refused to price match my holiday in Antigua next year. The cheek!

Not true. The 5 year warranty is classed as included so JL will happily match prices at other retailers (subject to their T&Cs) no matter what warranty the other retailer offers.

No they falsely stated this for MANY years, but no one would ever challenge them, they get away with so much

OK give us 10 examples then...
I've never had any problems with them honouring their claim but maybe I'm just lucky...

I've requested several price matches from JL and never had an issue. Including TV's with 5 year warranties.
#24
they are very specific about which stores I had several stores lower in price for a 65" 4K TV last year and they refused in stupid things like

" I am sorry we cannot match that price as in the terms and conditions of xxx if you want to return the item after 30 days you will be charged £6.95 collection fee. This is not something we offer therefore is not the same"

after several emails of I want to buy it not return anything or the model, delivery, warranty etc etc were the same I gave up and spent my £2k at another store.
Won't even bother trying with them again.

I've never had a problem with JL price-matching retailers with physical stores.
They have price-matched against Argos TVs that don't have a 5-year guarantee.
They won't match just online stores like Amazon and why should they? Their overheads are much more expensive and they pay their taxes!
#26
Cold. I wanted an argument.

Several of my requests have been refused over the past 12 months. Sometimes because a promo code was used others because the delivery team from the comparator wouldn't delivery up flights of stairs. Others because the returns process wasn't free...that's 3 reasons that come to mind.

I got online price match on e reader yesterday, £25 off which makes it same as Amazon but with additional free 2 year (against 1 year) warranty. Their price match policy isn't consistant

I had a successful price match recently on a TV where the competitors price included a promo code.

They will always price match a deal where the store has a physical high street presence (Argos, Currys, Halfords etc) so this is not a deal and nothing new (John Lewis price match has been going for years) . The JL guarantee is a bonus and is not taken into account for the price match , thought everyone understood this ?

They will not price match an internet only seller - it would be a deal if you had found they are now doing that .

By the way I get a couple of emails a week from John Lewis saying "Today we are matching a competitors price" (got one this morning ).

Out of interest Just spoke to JL about a price match on a big ticket item that i wanted from them as includes 3 year warranty. used Amazon and was told sorry no but also used tesco direct which they do match as they have physical stores. was offered an 8% discount on spot and of cause if price goes down further they will refund the difference.

Moral of the story if you don't ask politely you don't get.

What will this prove? Panasonic Washing machine, Fridge freezer, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung television to name a few. I would have to go through all my emails. Let users here provide their experience of John Lewis.
They even claimed a shop did not have a show room and was mail order only, which was nonsense.

"I thought it would be important to clarify our position on this matter. I apologise for any misleading information you have been given in prior correspondence regarding making comparable price match queries with The Gas Superstore.
I regret to inform you that The Gas Superstore are not a comparable retailer, as they operate from a Showroom."

This is a store that you can visit and pick up the goods from. You can also order online for delivery. JL refused to match as you can visit the "showroom", see the goods, pay and take way or ask for delivery. What is the difference between that and a store?

Hi

As a new poster, I have to say that I am surprised by the debate that has developed as a consequence of this post.

This was a genuine post based on a fab deal that I made earlier today.

All that I can say to the cynics is, "CUT THE SARCASM AND STOP MOANING"!!!

Bye.....

Sorry - but not sarcasm - just fact ! - It wasn't a "TODAY only " deal , John Lewis use the slogan "Today we are matching our competitor prices " every day . I realise you didn't mean to (in your 3 posts !) but you obviously misled enough of the HUKD flock to get each post heated . Nuff said (some on HUKD are easily misled !)

For John Lewis to price match it has to be same item in Stock in a store not online same colour then the undersales dept check and get back to customer but because it wasn't in Stock and was done with no form filling etc it unusual.

Yes. As long as the code is publicly available ie posted on the company's website.
